ok real is a bad name. Perhaps "303 Saw" and "303 Square". And I think a bigger .dll isn't too bad. Crystal for example is 11MB. And everyone likes it.

This is a very interesting thread for a Tau Pro owner like me. I didn't know that there was already such a difference between the Tau and the Tau Pro. I would vote for the Tau Pro to remain as it is, but must admit that Tau, Tau Pro and Tau 2 are a little bit confusing as names, since Tau Pro SEEMS to be the full version of Tau, but it's not and Tau 2 kind of will be, but Tau 2 is NOT an update to Tau Pro... If there were an update to Tau Pro, I wonder what would be updated...

It's too bad that "alpha" and "beta" are used for unstable versions of software, because then there could be Tau Alpha, Tau Beta (which would work great for the real TB clone) and Tau Pro. Tau Alpha: very simple and similar to a TB, but not quite there. Tau Beta: the real TB clone. Tau Pro: a different beast; similar but working under the idea that the TB303 wasn't the most advanced synth in the world...

Just my $0.02

Our current thinking goes like this:-

1) The freeware Tau is discontinued
2) What we are currently referring to as Tau2 will be known as Tau Bassline, and will cost $17.50
3) Tau Pro will probably need a new name....suggestions?

( Rabid just sits in the corner wondering ... if Tau Pro is not going to be a totally 303 emulation, why can it not have a simple LFO. )
All I need to be happy is one more VSTi.

Post

...Tau Pro has no less than four LFOs. They just don't have assignable destinations :?

I love Tau Pro just as it is I'd like to say. :D

As for a new name - what was the famous synth it was modeled after? Why don't you create a name that implies Tau Pro's origins?
Happiness is the hidden behind the obvious.

Post

On second thoughts regarding the naming of Tau Pro - don't imply the origins of the synth at all.

I'm tired of all the futile comparisons now and it hasn't even happened yet.

The famous synth in Tau Pro's origins was Tau Bassline

Or do you mean the one we modelled the oscillator waveforms on?

Tau'R'us? :)

That's the one.

Why don't you call it Nebula - don't think anyone's taken that name yet.

Or you could just call it “Controversy”. :D

Crystal's only a bit over 4 Mb,AFAIK :?
 I see-uncompressed it IS 11 Mb

A spectral heretic...

Why not just give tau2 a new name, seems less confusing to me :) Dunno about the new name though.

It'll be a while before we run out of particles yet :D
