Is there an an EQ or plugin to assign different EQ settings for different peaks of the input stream? For example on a percusion sound like a bassdrum, at the attack phase (where the stream has a lot of high peaks) i'd like to increase the mid's and hi's, and on the quiter parts i only want to boost the lower bits.
For example:
0 db to -2db: EQ settings 1
-1 to -6 db: EQ settings 2
-6 to -16 db: EQ settings 3
-16 to -INF db: EQ settings 4
It would be good to send a 'blend' time how smooth the settings should fade in from one to another.
Is there a way to achieve this?

What you're describing is a dynamic EQ (DQ), check out Sonalksis "DQ-1", I think.
If you used FL I could whip it together for you with EQUO and the peak controller, but in any other host I'm afraid I can't offer more than the first point.

It seems the DQ-1 is exactly what i'm looking for - but for 229.99 out of my leaque - damn! Any alternatives or any other way to achieve this?

I can't recommend more, just remember that a dynamic equalizer is NOT the same as a multiband compressor (easily confused, however).
EQUO can do the morphing you describe, and peak Controller will read the peaks to control the sweep.
So yeah, it *is* too bad you don't use FL... ;) but I'm sure there are DQs within your budget for this stuff (which I assume is $0.00, lol) but DQs are a relatively new plugin breed so I can't be sure.

No, i'm happy to pay if it does what I'm looking for - as long it doesnt exceed lets say EUR 100 for this kind of thing. There is not really much freeware stuff I use anyway.Cowbells!

dynamic eq hmm? interesting concept. Would like to see this applied to lots of other things like modulators and stuff. Im sure thereis some inertia on the peaks like in a compressor, not just instant setting change right?

Aleksey's GlissEQ is a good VST dynamic EQ plugin. It would be nice if you could process the left/right channels separately, but even still, you can gets sounds out of it you can only achieve from dynamic filter gain topologies. For the shaping power this EQ is capable of, Aleksey is practically giving it away.

Hm, i must be using those plugins wrong, i don't get the result i expected. Imagine a bassdrum sample - high peaks in the beginning and lower peaks at the end. I'd like to 'refresh' the beginning of the bassdrum by boosting high frequencies only and leave the rest alone. I can't do it with GlissEQ somehow?!

In Tracktion we can put 2 GlissEQs in a rack and wire them up for L/R and/or M/S for that matter. I've just recently gone over to Tracktion (from Sonar) partly because of IIRs excellant video tutorials. Before that though I used Console (ART Teknika) to wire up a coupla GlissEQs. combine an eq with an expander and compressor (matching) to get the effect you're looking for. i'm not so sure any good dynamics processors are available for free with perfect inverse mode, but there might be. i hardly know anything about vst plugins afterall, it wouldnt be a surpise if there are a ton.
