Liveslice MIDI control in FLStudio

Can anyone give me a quick walkthrough of how to use Liveslice to ( for example ) control an effect parameter in FLStudio.?
Do I have to add Liveslice as an instrument or an effect? Do I need to add a MIDI out device?
I have tried clicking the midi 1 and midi 2 parameters in a liveslice loop and setting them to MIDIchannel 2 and whatever CC number ( say 4)and altering the values in the slices from 0 - 127 and a couple of random numbers just so that the results would be obvious on whatever parameter I choose to control with them ....Then in the FLStudio mixer I added a filter , right-clicked the cut-off and chose "link to controller" and set that to Midi channel 2 / CC#4 ( corresponding to the values I set in Liveslice )...HOWEVER nothing happens ....LiveSlice plays as normal , but the MIDI parameters have no effect on the filter.......Ive tried this method by loading LiveSlice as an instrument AND loading as an effect , neither was successful...
Is it because I need to use SPECIFIC CC numbers maybe? or am I missing something obvious ?
Much appreciated if anyone can give me a simple walkthrough for this .....LiveSlice has really renewed my interest in tweaking and I want to try and understand it as well as possible ... THANKS in advance

Liveslice is pretty flexible in FL.. If you want to use it to grap/record audio from tracks that already exist you will use it as an effect on the desired channel or routed to a effect send or bus. If you want to load/drag drop audio into it, you can use it as an Instrument.. But you can still load/drag & drop files into the effects version also..

Yeah I knew that already thanks anyway Lagrange.... Sorry I was waffling on a bit , but what I want to know is how to use the midi parameters from individual slices to control an effect in FL ...I tried to explain in my original post but not very clearly...any help appreciated

yes please!Lagrange wrote:You mean you want to use the velocity from a given slice in LiveSlice to control a parameter in FL? If yes use Fruity Peak Controller and then link the parameter to it..
Let me know if you need a walk thru..

thanks lagrange!

thanks again Lagrange , but thats not what I mean... Maybe this will clear it up a bit ...Ive taken this quote from the Liveslice homepage :-
"LiveSlice has no internal effects - instead you can sequence midi CC's that can control for example your favourite filter plugin - load it as an insert effect and let LiveSlice control the cutoff frequency with different values for each slice."
This is what I mean ....when you are slicing up a sample you have the pitch / pan /probability tabs above the sample view ..aswell as the pitch/pan and probability tabs are two tabs marked Midi1 and Midi2 ....I am assuming that these are the values to tweak enabling midi control of an effect.
This is the process that I need explaining.
Thanks again for your time.

thanks R.A.W. ...I think Im gonna try LiveSlice in XT ... I dont have the standalone version of EnergyXT but I have the plugins ( vsti and vst effect versions) ... I guess I can get round this using XT as a plug-in , Im beginning to realise now that the major problem is actually finding which CC#'s correspond to which parameters in individual third-party FX plug-ins.. Im from the old skool ,so the only CC#s I ever dealt with were the few "standard" ones that used to be widely used in the days of General Midi.... ..... ever feel like just going back to playing acoustic guitar???? phew
Any tips on using LiveSlice in the plug-in version of XT would be useful though if anyone can be bothered
Cheers to everyone who's patience Im testing here

in xt, you do all the routing with wires in the "main" view.
Load energy xt in your FL track, open the gui and right click to add LiveSlice (and any effects)
the blue boxes are audio, the red boxes are midi, so connect as needed (draw wires) then open the gui of the effect plugin (s) and in the "file" menu is an item called CC-map. Here you can map any of the 128 CC's to any parameter in the plugin, regardless of what CC's the plugin itself has defined. Select the same channel and CC number in liveslice and you are all set.
will add this to the manual if it isn't there already

You are doing everything right. But you also need to set the midi output port # in liveslice (leftclick next to the folder symbol on the fruity wrapper ; show midi output port ; choose port# up in the right corner of the fruity wrapper) and corresponding midi input port # in your prefered effect, and everything should work just finecymazic wrote:I have tried clicking the midi 1 and midi 2 parameters in a liveslice loop and setting them to MIDIchannel 2 and whatever CC number ( say 4)and altering the values in the slices from 0 - 127 and a couple of random numbers just so that the results would be obvious on whatever parameter I choose to control with them ....Then in the FLStudio mixer I added a filter , right-clicked the cut-off and chose "link to controller" and set that to Midi channel 2 / CC#4 ( corresponding to the values I set in Liveslice )...
