Let me know what you think of this piece. It's kind of hypnotic groovy.
It's a demo piece for another inexpensive frame drum product from Sample Squad. I put together a fairly rockin' set of sounds using a tunable Pakistani frame drum as the source. Even the kicks and bongo-esque hits originated off this one 18" drum. Took me a while to tune it the way I wanted over the course of the session, but I was able to tweak it out so that some of the longer tones have incredible overtone beating. You ambient folks could get a lot of mileage out of this set.

Just in case any of you guys don't know, Shane Sanders is one of the good guys in the business and is making a go of it by selling his products at an affordable price...which are all of excellent quality.
We would all do well to support these kinds of people and for the price you can buy these for, you really don't have a reason not to. Support Shane!

Totally programmed. I used the built-in FPC sample player in FL Studio and didn't even bother with anything fancy on the ADSR.EkleipSiS wrote:hey Shane what are you using to build up a demo with your samples?
is it live?
To control unwanted resonance, I used EQ, but the smart way to do it would be to use a more featured sampler and set up various choke groups and ADSR configs (and EQ, too). Some of these hits ring for a long time, and unless one controls that, the resonance will build up. I felt like it was best to let the drums complete their envelope so that the customer would have that option, because clearly one can always 'curtail the tail' but one can't add it if its not already there. In the expansion packs, I'm gonna do more choked hits, though there are enough included for expressive work.
The thing I noticed in programming with these is how important it is to use some of the shorter taps as ghost notes and to take care with their velocity. Lower velocity on them seemed to really sell the performance, and I tried to provide enough of those so that very natural sounding short fills can be achieved. Hopefully the demos show that it can be done convincingly even with a fairly small set of samples.
I think Battery 3 would be a good environment for these. I just didn't have time to build a kit with fully controllable ADSR.

Shane this is awesome! I havent even had a chance to play with the Bodhran samples (other than listen to them). I guess I will have to avoid Supersizing my next lunch at McDonalds so I can afford to get these
Keep up the great work! These are the kinds of drum samples I love to use.
