(Edit - I took the links in this post down, and replaced them both with this which is individual samples sliced from the recording originally posted, for your convenience, and because it was too large a recording. The new download is a zip of about 2 dozen clips extracted from it, about 15 mb.)
This and this is a short recording taken at 24/96, and my first attempt at such (Caution, 136 mb). When properly sliced it may yield some nice percussive samples. I was building a wooden box and was liking the accoustic properties of it as I was hammering on it, so I rushed it inside, placed a couple pzm mics inside it, ran them into my trusty Behringer 1202 and then into this M-Audio Quattro that I purchased for this kind of thing generally. My room lacked the accoustics of the woodshop, but I think the samples may still be useable. I have not cleaned these up at all yet.
I think I had the levels set high, but some of these might serve as good samples nonetheless. (Think Neubauten?) You may do whatever you like with the material, but I request that you share any samples or resulting work with me, and/or offer me any advice and criticism you may have. This is my first attempt at this. There is also another set of mono samples here that are only 32 mb. I will leave these up for a while but can't guarantee I will not need the space after a few days. If you like them I will send them over to the SampleTorrent folks.

Just a quick suggestion: you might want to go to the voxengo website and download their free utility R8 Brain. It is a high quality sample rate converter. You could convert the 24/96 into 24/44 or 48 and reduce the size of the wav by half.
Dling the wav now.

Sho. Just my 1st attempt. I just wanted to make the highest quality recordings I could available for this little "project," and if necessary down-convert from there. I will get the r8brain on your advice.Genetic_Junk wrote:Just a quick suggestion: you might want to go to the voxengo website and download their free utility R8 Brain. I think the stereo one is the better of the 2, if you like found noises. Me, I love power equipment and factory noises, among many other things.

I dled the stereo file. Some cool percussion stuff to cut out of there.

Cool. I could filter out some of the noise, but I thought I'd leave that kinda decision up to the artist. Or I can do it. So you think I should go ahead and make it a 48 bit or whatever? I can do that easily enough I guess. I've always used Total Recorder for that before, but that's because I use it for work.Genetic_Junk wrote:I dled the stereo file. well what I would do is cut individual samples from that big 24/96 file and convert the individual samples to 24/48khz with r8brains batch process.
Just use your own judgement on what would be the best parts to cut. Don't worry about the noise, it's not that bad.
I think that most people don't want to cut out their own samples. They would rather dl a pack of samples that's ready to go. Then again, maybe I'm way off in my assumption.

No, I guess you are right. I think I will do that, since I had hoped to get more friggin response on this thread by now. I was kinda excited about these noises I guess.Genetic_Junk wrote:well what I would do is cut individual samples from that big 24/96 file and convert the individual samples to 24/48khz with r8brains batch process.

But I thank you for your interest and advice, anyway.

----I downloaded the big .wav file earlier, haven't had a chance to listen yet, but I prefer 44.1/16bit stereo files myself. Good bang for buck sound quality-wise, and I don't have to convert them before using them. Thanks regardless though, it's always cool to check out people's random field recordings.

There are a lot of factors that will influence people's interest in samples, what the samples actually are, the sample rate and bit depth, the size of the pack, the price, etc.
I really like found sounds too, but I find through my experience here a (kvr) that most people will respond to "normal" sounds that aren't usually given away. Like that glass sample pack. Breaking glass is a pretty common sound, and it is rare some one will give the sound away for free. Although, like I said there are other factors that determine the feedback will get.

No doubt. I guess making a 140 mb download of me banging on a box wasn't that realistic either.Genetic_Junk wrote:I really like found sounds too, but I find through my experience here a (kvr) that most people will respond to "normal" sounds that aren't usually given away. Hey I just tried that r8brain. That is one hella easy gui. So I converted the large file to 24 bit 4800 sample rate, if this is the correct terminology, and now i am going to slice it up. I also adjusted the volume on the right channel as it seemed to lean to the left. I will post some clips and dele the big file off the server shortly.

OK, it is done. This is a 15 mb zip of about 50 sounds clipped out of the recording of me banging, scraping, stapling, and generally pleasuring myself with a box that I thought had some nice qualities. If I had it to do again I would surely do a nicer job of it, like place a small partition between the 2 mics for better stereo separation. But anyway, please, take, use, and critique.

Just got to checking out the first big one you posted... I like it! Thanks for posting this, I'm sure I'll get some use out of it.
