Any more suggested "difficult" control settings?]

Please Dave, same sequence with cutoff to 10 (fully opened)

i dont seem to see how any1 can improve on the propellerheads version of the 303

Rebirth is not a particularly good emulation AT ALL.

1. The oscillator waves are wrong
2. The cutoff curves and ranges are wrong
3. The amplitude envelope is wrong

I can very easily take a sample off the 303, set up the same settings on Rebirth and Tau2 and you will find that Tau2 is much closer

But the fact is that Rebirth is the only one i know which has good (enough) accent modelling.

Not much point in having good accent modelling if the amp envelope/filter envelope and oscillator waveforms are all wrong though. This is why we're focussing on doing things in a sensible order, getting each one as close as we can before moving on.

Same order as before, 303 first and then Tau2. I think you were quite right, this is a difficult control combination to model. Sounds to me like we've got the base cutoff fractionally too high in this position, it can be fixed of course.

the best 303 emu I tried was lush 303 it was standalone free and buggy as hell but oh boy was it dirty and believe me it was sounding better than Rebirth could wish the developers didn't lost the source code but looks like tau2 will pick up where it left off

both sound nice for squares OSc

I noticed the first one(303)
is more bassy with less midrange

the second one is brighter than the first one but t my ears it sounds like there is some rubberyness happening(PWM)

bizarre, realmarco. There's no PWM at all, take a look at the waveforms.

Hi. I just wanted to say i'm really looking forward to Tau 2.

Will it have a built in sequencer? Incredibly enough there are tons of 303-clones but only one (rebirth) has included this essential part of the original IMO. I know Tobybears "Screamer" has a sequencer, but it's not quite as fun to use as the real deal.

No, Tau2 won't have a built-in sequencer. It will be more like a MIDI retrofit 303

Having heard about Markleford's step sequencer MFX plugin, I'm sure a solution like that might be fun. The advantage of putting the sequencer in a seperate device would be that you could then use it with other synths. We'll have a look around and see what sort of stuff is out there, with a view to perhaps bundling it with Tau2.

It's good that you're doing it this way Dave. Getting knowledgeable 303 owners like easymode to help out with comparisons will mean a better emulation in the long run.

I will probably get Tau2 because it's a Muon device.
