This highly depends on your skill as a composer/orchestrator, and what standard you're shooting for. For example, the guys at Northern Sound Source and VI Control absolutely need those extra articulations, since they are composing on film, TV, and game projects that are supposed to sound like real symphonic orchestras--anything the composer/orchestrator can think of must be included in these highend libraries. in a phrase for violin, i can easily use many articulations. the violin is an extremely agile (agile? it has dex 20, hehe) instrument. and so when i do my best at imitating that, then it is easier to be fooled into thinking that it is a real violin.grymmjack wrote:ok. even when nothing specifically is noted, a real violinplayer "switches presets" alot... because he is making the music.. musical. gah, too early in the morning to try to make a good explanation.
