are there any of you who own the zoom and wish that they had went with one of the others?
thanks!

you are welcome melo. I had an edirol r4 and a marantz pmd660. For me the zoom is the best field recorder out of the two.

Hmmm. With some restrictions:stale bread wrote:thanks i'm looking at this seriously to use when i'm on the move, for a samplist it looks like one of those no brainer ideal situations.rnms wrote:As an Audio interface this works very well, download the ASIO drivers from the Zoom website and latency is minimal, can be bus powered so no battery power is used, Someone on another forum (SOS) called the H4 the Swiss army knife of audio gear, I have to agree.
- 16bit/48KHz max. sampling depth/rate
- you cannot disable direct monitoring !!!

haha...Genetic_Junk wrote:Actually that forum is what I was reading before I bought the H4 and spurred my asking Greg about the pulse/beeps. I tried to register, but the admin for some reason did not email me back the activation link.
I also saw the pulse in audacity. I had my headphone amp at max and couldn't hear the pulses. The high frequency you hear in those samples is various office machinery. The copy machine, the mini-fridge, and a couple computers were all running in the background. I am pretty discriminating when it comes to S/N and at 24 96 my H4 has very low noise. Just listen to the silence samples, the pulses or high pitch are both non-existent in the 24 96 file.
I'm not sure if they can fix the 16/44 and 16/48 beeps with a firmware update.
My 1616m laptop soundcard paired high quality condensers will best the H4 in sound-quality, but for me the H4 wins in the portability to sound-quality ratio.
Glad I perked some interest though.
and cost!

but looking at your impressions of the thing, I'm assuming our production people, who just ordered the Sony and a Marantz and some of those mics with a built-in usb recorder might have not waited long enough? ( the zoom is 'real new')
for entertaining porpoises only
