ok,
so i've sampled a piece of music from vinyl and want to write a new piece revolving around it.
i need to find out what the tempo is for the sample, i've tapped out the beats and have arranged the bars in my timeline, but i don't know how to set the bpm.
is there a tool in pro tools which will calculate this for me or do i need to download an app to do so?
i'm running m-powered pro tools on os x.
BPM detection?

Assuming its in 4/4, that meansMonophile wrote:so what i'm trying to ask is,
what is the bpm for 10 bars over 37 seconds?
40 crotchets in 37 seconds,
divide by 40, and we get 1 crotchet in 0.925 seconds.
Divide this from 60, and we have 60/0.925 = 64.864864864864864... (recurring)
Therefore, the tempo is crotchet = 64.8649 to 4 decimal places.
(Or, if it was in 2/4, it would be 32.4324. If it was in 3/4, it would be 48.6487).

10 bars should equal 40 beats.
37 seconds equals 0.6166 minutes.
So thats 40 beats in 0.6166 minutes which is 40 / 0.6166 = 64.86 BMP.
Seems a bit slow, I think you counted to TWO instead of FOUR for a bar.
So I'd say the original track tempo was 130 BMP.
For any next calculation: BPM = beats * 60 / seconds.
37 seconds equals 0.6166 minutes.
