OK...I know there is probably an easy way to do this, but I'm finding that the methods that are out there require either more apps than I'm willing to install or the process is so convoluted it makes me feel like I'm reaching around my ass to get to my elbow:
Is there is simple way to rip the audio track (to wav) from a standard DVD movie?
i can get the VOB files just fine with either DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter, but I can't seem to find anything to get'em to waves...
(I'm beginning to grind my teeth more than normal over this one :x .... )

Since you're already using DVD Decrypter, you might want to use stream processing to rip AC3 files directly from the disk. I don't know anything off-hand that will convert AC3 to wave, but I'm sure there's something out there that will do it. dBpowerAMP may have an AC3 decoder available.

thanks for the quick reply, Warmonger! what you're suggesting sounds similar to the process I found here, but after I follow all the steps I can, I get an error message from Nero telling me that the wma files (...even though I've selected VOB files...) are protected and cannot be burned to a CDDA...
I'll look into dBpowerAMP...
thanks again!

1) First make sure that DVD Decrypter is in IFO Mode!

2) Click on the main Concert file under the input tab

At this point you can choose to rip all of it or just one scene (or song).

3) After sellecting the files you want to rip, click on the Stream Proccessing tab.

4) Enable Stream Proccessing

5) Check the Audio stream box only!

If there are multiple audio streams choose the one that only has two channels.

6) Now, highlight the checked auido stream and choose to Demux it

Now your ready to rip!

7) Rip the DVD (audio stream) to your hard drive by clicking on the DVD to hard-drive icon.

That should create either a LPCM or a AC3 file

with this one you can route the audio of the dvd (while it's playing), straight to your host or any recording software and save it in any format you'd like, it's not free, but they do have a demo.

This will let you record any sound played trough your soundcard (ie. a dvd playing) and record the stream to mp3, it can also do wav and other formats, once you buy a license that is.

similar concept to the last one, and freeware, does ogg, wav, mp3, etc.

One might also check out RipIt4Me to "complete" the DVD Decrypt/Shrink package. Very useful for making backup copies of one's legally purchased DVDs.

Thanks, guys! I found the right combination for me: AC3Filter and Goldwave. If you have something that can extract the VOB's (both Decrypter and Shrink do just fine for me...) Goldwave will decompress the VOB's to listenable/editable format as long as you have AC3Filter installed. From there, you can save'em in any format ya want! works like a champ!
Thanks very much for helping me end this...exercise successfully! :tu:

SUPER © (free) can do this in one program. Select the VOB file you want to convert, select WAV (audio only) as your output, click Encode. Job done.

It also does all kinds of other audio/video conversions.
