sigikull: Welcome and many many thanks for this wonderful contribution. I am an ESQ1 / SQ80 fan since 1986 and nothing made me more happy in a while than seeing and hearing your plugin. This pretty much completes my wishlist of classic synths that I would like to have in the virtual world. Can't wait for your pro version to be available - there's one customer right here!

Hey Chris, did you use the ESQ1 or the SQ80 in Turrican? Or was that Apidaya and Giana Sisters only? *also, did you use custom presets or factory banks?*

I've never been able to figure out how all of these companies stay in business. You can buy kits, assembled, second hand, new, old, broken, mint and DIY from scratch + all the software options. Then there are all the magazines + brick n morter and online stores.

I did notice that the normally thick Keyboard mag has slimmed down a lot. That's a bad indicator for hardware in general but still, who the hell is buying all of this stuff that supports m-audio, roland, korg, ni, mackie, behringer... ect, ect.

I've sold kit's and PC board everywhere the internet goes across the entire planet for 12 years and I'm tiny compaired to most of the other guys. How many people can there be that are into DIYing a modular synth together? It's weird.

Both... Game and official soundtrack CD. The "OST" was from the Amiga game(s) Turrican 1 and 2, where Chris was in charge of it. The C64 version used ideas from the Amiga version, but that wrote Martin Stember (if I can remember correctly - like both OSTs).

I think it's a vanity business. Meaning something people do even if they lose money, because they want to. Much like many indy bookstores.

Until 1991 I had only an ESQ1, so Turrican 1 and 2 have a lot of samples of ESQ1 sounds. However, the SQ80 is compatible with the ESQ1 and patches of the ESQ1 sound pretty much the same on the SQ80 as far as I remember. The SQ80 has additional wave samples and one or two additional features in the sound engine as well as a floppy disk drive which was the main reason I remember though that I liked the keyboard on the ESQ1 much better, the SQ80 has a very loud clacking keyboard (they changed it to provide aftertouch, which I never used).

About my sounds: I programmed a lot in those days, some were derivatives of factory presets, but many were programmed from scratch. Many of my later sounds use layering, which the plugin doesn't do yet (I have high hopes for the pro version) and even though the voices on the real machine then drop to 4 it sounds just awesome.

I've always managed to make money and thank goodness have never lost money on a hardware release. I used to sell the software too until I made enough to pay off my tools. I guess I could and should still charge a token fee but I like the simplicity of giving it away.

Hm... interesting indeed. I always looked for a synth that captured "your sound" - now it's at my fingertips. Tried it with Synth 1, but never got even close.

The SQ8L will sure enhance my sound - especially in terms of "oldschool" or "bread and butter" ones. And I like that stuff. New music is just... too clean in my opinion, or only Virus/Moog like.

Any chances you still have the presets for conversion? Cause you definitely had some nice stuff going on in Turrican (and later in Tunnel B1 too, though it was orchestra and I never liked the game - but the subbass in the orchestra is some real mean mother! And still have some tracks on permament loop).

SQ80 emulating VSTi available
