Ho. Lee. Shit.

I just spent half an hour with this thing. My goodness, it sounds MARVELOUS...basically indistinguishable from the real deal. I am stunned. The filter is nice and filthy, and the noise has that same gritty quality...it's like you guys found a way to make my PC run at 12 bits.

A question about aftertouch though--I can't get it to react to the AT from my Axiom controller. Is it receiving AT on a specific channel? How do I find this out?

Are future versions going to be fully programmable?

i don't know much about these machines, and i am wondering if they were able to load additional wave roms, like a wavestation or whatever?

anyone know?

and if so, i wonder if this one will be able to in the pro version...

The SQ-80 had a cartridge slot that allowed storage of sequences and patch data...but not waves. However, Syntaur Productions had (and still sells) patches that accessed "hidden" waveforms. I never tried those, so I have no idea what they were.

Hi Scot, I had an Atari program that would allow access to the hidden ESQ waveforms (long since forgot the name) I seem to remember there were a few useful waves but generally not enough to get excited about. But it was.....what, 20 years ago so maybe memory fails.

I just contacted Sam Mims of Syntaur a while back. Cool to hear from one of the masters of the early Ensoniq products. Remember the Transoniq Hacker?

Yeah...I actually bought some stuff from him last year...a new set of SoundProcess discs for the Mirage (for those who don't know, Ensoniq opened up the Mirage to third parties who could create alternate operating systems...one of them, the SoundProcess, turned it into a multitimbral synth).

Yep, I remember the Hacker well. I have had at least one or two Ensoniq synths in the studio for twenty years or so!

I *had* two ESQ-1s and an ESQ-M. I am so sorry I sold them off a long time ago.

There was an original factory patch called "T-Piano" that I'd commit at least five major urban atrocities to have again.
