Apple Loop Browser VS. Apple Loop Utility...

Here's a wierd one...

I have samples from some Acid sound libraries. Now, in Acid, and in the Apple Loop Utility these samples will play fine, no wobble or anything at any key or at most tempos. The problem is when I'm in Logic and load the Loop Browser and play certain samples (Not all do this...), they play super wobbled and actually have clicks in them. I've re-saved them as Apple Loops, but nothing changes... And yes, I changed my transient timing... Anyone got any ideas how I might fix these particular files?

In the ALU, what is the determined Tempo of the loop? It's the listing of Tempo in the main field, not on the slider. I find when it's less then 60, nothing can be relied upon.

The sample tempo is 110 and the sequence tempo is 85. It plays it fine in Acid and the ALU, but not in Logic inside the Loop Browser. Why is that, and why is it only particular samples?

I tend to find Apple Loops a bit wobbly, myself...

agreed... another one of apple's only partially developed technologies.

Apple loop utility is able to extract the tempo information from an acid file only if the acid file is named and organized a certain way, I tried playing around with them for a while but then realized it's so much easier to work with live or a dedicated loop-slicing plugin (like kontakt, phatmatik pro, amg one, etc...) than to have to put up with converting loops to apple loops.

OTOH i like the fact that regions that are bounced within Logic will be automatically made into apple loops that will follow the tempo of the track. This is pretty much the only way in which I use them.

I'd hope to see a more developed apple loops concept for Logic 8.

Or more likely Garageband 4...

Still, if the AppleLoop sounds OK in the ALU, it should sound OK in the Logic Browser. I consider the ALU as the plumbline as to what a "legal" AppleLoop is. (Although it's relative, a format is only as good as the stuff that plays it back.)

My best guess is that the Logic Browser uses different technology to play back the loop at a different tempo. What does it sound like at Unity Tempo?

Feel free to toss the original ACID file to me at garth@chickensys.com, I'll take a look for you, maybe I can find a special case for that file.

Hm, can't say anything about the OP's problem, but to me, AppleLoops are just incredibly great, especially the green ones are.
Now I can prelisten all of my loops (be it pure MIDI or EXS converted recycled stuff) not only in song-tempo but in song sync! What a kickass thing!
And when dragging the loop onto an instrument track, everything will be loaded instantly.
These two features alone make me forgive them any possible "wobbly-ness" or whatever. I only need to find out whether the loop suits my song's feel and after that I'm fine because the virtual instruments the loops are made with will just play them with pristine quality, as soon as I drag them into Logic.

But better don't get me started about any AppleLoop organisation...
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

My point exactly... :?
