To get back on the main issue and asking Sigfried directly:
Is there an estimated release date for the SQ8X? If so, you also have a certain price for this thing in mind?

I know SQ8L just came out, but I just can't hold back my curiosity.

Wow this is great. I can see using this for anything. more complexity, more layers, little cpu. Very good alternative to messing around with sfz and GM banks.

i know it's probably obvious but, throw kjaerhus classics after this thing; chorus -> eq -> reverb, then follow it up with refined audiometrics clas and it really comes to life.

try this:
> sq8l - instant strings factory preset
> classic chorus - string pad chorus
> classic eq - more air
> classic reverb - grand hall
> clas (10/10)

a .cantabile for you if you use cantabile.

this is exactly the sounds i used to track with i always wondered where the samples i used came from. the "anabas" patch sounds so familiar. i wonder if someone on the old ftp.cd-rom.com sample dump (walnut creek/hornet archive) sampled a SQ80?

thanks very much for this great instrument. it's a total blast to program, dead simple.

edit: also it is chorus/eq/reverb that comes on most recent VSTi's so you aren't cheating by doing that the classic series is very frugal with CPU. you could swap that out with LFX1310 and put those effects in order in the 3 slots if you need every ounce of CPU (i just did that on the notebook and it sounds almost as good).

Finally got around to a good play with this, & I must say I'm in love. I've always loved my ESQ, definitely cool to have it in software- especially with the extra SQ-80 waves.

Thank you very much for this, I think I have a new favorite soft synth.

Some of my patches has been made by tweaking the SQ80 to it's outer limits but they just sound as the hardware...!!
I simply can't understan how this can be done.

Care to share them with us...hrmn?

I've been out most of the day 'cause I found 80 more, completely different banks stashed away! I don't think I've ever tried most of these. We may have another 3000 or so patches!

I hope I don't run into a bunch of dupe-banks. So far is been all new to me. I'm about 1/2 done, I'm working on it.

I do have an SQ80 (unfortunately its display went crazy and is now unuseable) and this plugin is pretty damn good! It has that gritty lofi feeling the original has. The original SQ80 is a blast to program but I think the interface of the plugin could be improved. Wouldn't mind if the gui was bigger.

I don't see any need for bigger yet. Just more visible options in the same space, i.e., more efficient use of available space. This thing could have 2 or 3 times the controls and not get much bigger.

This brings up an interesting point about "emulations" - to be faithful to the original it often seems necessary to make many of the same mistakes that were made on the original (usually due to reduce manufacturing processes). But I'd almost always prefer IMPROVED interfaces since in the soft synth world we don't have these design and manufacturing restrictions. Sure the result will not be as "faithful" looking to the original, but the functionality of the new design can be a vast improvement and make the synth far more useful and powerful than the original! This SQ8L is a perfect example. So much more could be done that would improve the interface. It'll be interesting to see where this goes next.

Anyone else using this successfully in Tracktion 2?
I get it to make sound, but the GUI jumps all around when I try to click some of the buttons.

edit: Wrapping it in EnergyXT solves the jumping gui. I guess it must be a Tracktion specific issue.

A bit more detail on the problem: The title bar of the plugin, when used in Tracktion 2, sometimes disappears when attempting to click on a button (especially the patch change buttons). When attempting to click a button the entire gui shifts up, and covers the title bar, then moving the mouse up to attempt to click the same button, causes it to shift back down and show the title bar again. This makes it a little hard to use...

I must say, this thing really takes me back. It brings up fond memories of my ESQ. This plug sounds remarkably like it. Thanks for that!

I dont think Ensoniq did any mistakes when they made the original SQ80. I'ts one of, if not the best interface on any keyboard.
I presume that you allready know the SQ80 interface. What i would like is to be able to select lfos, envelopes, DCA, oscillator page with an icon on the front panel like on the original SQ80 in stead of right clicking everytime.
The very nice thing about tha SQ80 interface is you can allmost import it as it is to the computer and it will still work as good(just without the buttons)
