There are larger synths with less than half the controls Oatmeal has, and even at that size, grymmjack's made it look compact but not congested. I think what's been done so far lays it out very well indeed. It's AWESOME to have a synth tis configurable and not need to flip pages. :)

...just looking at it right now... grymmjack (and everyone else) what would you think of making the horizontally laid depth indicators into regular sliders with a pointer so they don't look so like the other ones? If they're thinner and different, it might jsut open up that section a little...
do you mean actual fader knobs on them? i dont mind doing that but if i do it, it loses consistency. i've still got to draw out the midi and edit screens (i'm thinking that it will take up the entire bottom half of the ui covering over all effects and xy pad and master, since there is so much stuff on those pages, and a larger wave editor would be nice. or if i can fit it all in just cover up the master and xy pad sections with the editor/midi pages.
I was refering ONLY to the DEPTH parameters for the Mod envelopes being sliders. I know you wanted NON-traditional (UNknob-like) so I was thinking maybe something very simple, like a dull luminescent indicator... something like the horizontal ones on BONES synths, but with the right size and thickness and colour...

EDIT: I did a horrible mockup of what I meant using Paint. Obviously your sliders would be better, but here was my idea anyway...

main page is done. all that's left is midi and editors :) editors are actually easy since it's just a background box where the waveform gets drawn :)

midi isn't hard either. lots of stuff to cram in though.

midi and editors will cover up the xy, eq, and master slots.

i'm not sure if i like the excited version more or less. it's a toss up for me.

Well, I like the excited version better.

dayum. very snazzy grymm. very, very snazzy. the 'excited' version is better imho, crisp, sharp and a bit more contrasty.

great!

ok i'm done for tonight. added the mockup to http://designermonkey.rekkerd.org ... hopefully can mockup the midi page tommorow and then get back at it to animate/skin next weekend (or sooner depending on my free time and other stuff).

thanks everyone for your feedback and support.

my 2c

*beautiful* :)

other comments: the signal path is difficult to ferret out from the gui. The synth is busy, but that's not your fault. I wonder if there was a way to "grey-out" some of the boxes like phase and tune or eq, so they would not stand out untill you adjusted them. Probably not in the cards, and just as well as it's great as is.

+10 :D

Also a question here, in the Oatmeal skin I'm using (the one like Albino), I can assign many targets to the XY-pad (up to 4 for each axis). In this skin, only one target for each axis? That's it? Or is there anything I am missing?

Thanks.

Post

It looks to me like you can do that, to the right of the pad. I assume if you click on the "LFO bla bla" you can choose the target. Am I right grymm?

Post

I keep meaning to say how great this skin is, so this time I just did it. Very nice work and I'll be using this just as soon as I can get my hands on it. Thank You.
