Hi everyone.
I have the upright bass and it sounds fantastic. I have the Vsampler version and I'm having a weird problem with random clicks. It seems to happen at the beginning or end of the sample, but it isn't consistent, so I don't think it is actually a part of the samples. Is there a setting in Vsampler I should be looking at?
I don't have this problem with any other instruments/samples in Vsampler or with any of my other samples (BFD, EWQL Gold and Choir, Stylus RMX, GPO, etc). I'm using Sonar 5 Producer.
My system:
P4 3.2G
2 gigs RAM
80G system drive
250G audio drive
400G samples drive
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Hi
Just did a quick test here with VSampler and I get no clicks here in Stand alone or in the VST version. (tested with 512 meg of Ram on an old AMD 1800)
I can surely say that there are no clicks in the samples themselves as mine and Gregs ears have been trained on these samples for months. To start, I would suggest checking your latency settings and seeing if increasing them helps. Or perhaps maybe some other setting in the VSampler menu? I have tested the VSampler version heavily here without any trouble so please let us know if you find anything that we can look into.
There are also, a few other guys who have purchased the VSampler version, so if anything is wrong i am sure we will hear about it soon enough, but so far, you are the first to have any trouble with any of the formats we offer. It may be specific to VSampler (or Sonar 5 maybe) and your setup and not the library itself... But that said...
Any more details please let me know.
I'll check it again tomorrow in Sonar 6 with VSampler.

It definitely does not seem to be a problem with the samples. I am getting the same problem using Vsampler as a DXI, or as a standalone. The clicks get slightly worse as Sonar plays through the track. I notice that I am also getting a click sound when the mod wheel info does a zero crossing.
Some more info: This project contains 3 audio tracks, one instance of BFD, and Vsampler using the upright bass. I am using a Fireface 800.
I don't use Vsampler a lot, so I'm not really sure what settings I should be looking at. Any help would be appreciated!

Well the samples are not at fault definately. I've tried all of them, both patches, and also translated them to Halion 2 (which I use personally...) so I got all wav files wich CDXtract. No problem yet.
RAM issu or DFD issue would not be a problem I imainge as the whole ste is rather small in size. I mean if you do have DFD, try to load all the samples, they're around 100 Mb in total? Not an unacceptable number...
Sadly don't have VSamlper to help there...

I don't know if it will help you but anyway...
I once had a similar problem (weird clicks in Scarbee bass especially when moving the mod wheel) and finally found that adjusting the quality of resampling to "Standard" cured the problem.
To change this, you have to go through "Options" - "Audio" - "Performance/Quality" then choose the tab "quality" and adjust the resampling quality. Maybe yours is set to "perfect" or "ultra".

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I still have not been able to figure out the problem. I have tried all of the resample quality settings in Vsampler and have tried adjusting the latency settings on my Fireface. Neither of these have had any effect. I have not seen this issue before, but I just loaded the Scarbee bass into Vsampler and noticed I am getting clicks with it as well - although way less than what I am getting with the Manytone upright.
I've been debating the purchase of Kontakt 2. This may be the deciding factor to go that route.

As we have determined that the samples are fine, and other guys are running them fine in VSampler, It sounds like this is a VSampler problem that seems specific to your setup/system. Have you contacted VSampler forum or support.
I did contact Maz and ask if he wanted a copy of the Libraries to check, but i have not heard back from him. Wish i knew what else to tell you. How high a latency setting did you try? Do you have the latest VSampler version?
It upsets me to see the thread title, implying that the new bass has a problem ...yet the problem is clearly VSampler on your system and not the Bass Library itself at all.
Contacting VSampler support would be my best suggestion.

Heh
Just to add to the above...
Many years ago I had this terrible midi timing problem on my system. It was the strangest thing and it drove me nuts for ages. I finally figured out that the circuit the computer was plugged into, also had an old beer fridge on the same circuit. Turned out the Beer Fridge was causing all my trouble. As soon as I unplugged the fridge, my system worked perfect.
But man did it drive me nuts until i figured out what it was. I was replacing Drivers ....reconfigging etc etc etc. when all the time it was the fridge. Sure ....now the beers warm, but damn, my songs sure are a lot tighter.

Paul - Is there a way to change the title of the thread? I was careful to mention in the very first post that: "I don't think it (clicking/popping) is actually a part of the samples". The bass does sound very good and it does now definitely seem to be a problem with Vsampler on my system. I was just hoping to get some suggestions of things to try to fix the problem from others on the forum. I am using version 3.5.2 and this is the newest version. I will contact Vsampler support to see what they have to say.manytone wrote:As we have determined that the samples are fine, and other guys are running them fine in VSampler, It sounds like this is a VSampler problem that seems specific to your setup/system. Just to be clear. I would recommend the Manytone Upright to anyone looking for upright bass samples.

Thanks Paul. I just posted at the Vsampler forum. Hopefully I'm just overlooking something obvious.

Is your problem solved?
Just for the record, I have better performance (I can go to lower latency in Sonar before it clicks, cracks and pops!) with VSampler 3.5 than 3.52.
