Question for all you SQ80 guru's: I have a patch that is a piano panned hard left and a Synth panned hard right. Is there a way to move them both more towards center?

Nice Synth and thanks for all the banks.

After going through tomg's bank conversion for the past few days, and comparing to all the banks I've collected over the years (most can currently be found on Rainer's website), here's what I found.

ESQ-012 was ESQ-013
ESQ-019 was ESQ-046
....

SQ8L Banks
I'm trying to get the "SQ8L Banks" file but I'm getting a "Page URL Not Found" error. Anybody else with the same problem?

1.Create a folder called "SQ8L" in your VST folder
IE:D:\Cubase SL\Vstplugins\VintaD:\Cubase SL\Vstplugins\Vinatge\SQ8L
ge\SQ8L

2.Do not use the installer.

3.Transfer all bank .dll and other files bar the setup.exe to that one folder from the extracted zip.

4.Open Cubase and load SQ8L VST you will get the interface and no sound.

5.Run regedit.exe

6.You will see the following
(Default) nothing
path_data D:\Cubase SL\Vstplugins\Vintage\SQ8L\data
path_dll D:\Cubase SL\Vstplugins\Vintage\
path_user D:\Cubase SL\Vstplugins\Vintage\SQ8L\user

7.Click on My Computer Dribe D and go to the VST plugins folder and click on the SQ8L folder do this while regedit is open.

8.Copy and paste the "D:\Cubase SL\Vstplugins\Vinatge\SQ8L" to all of the following ....

Absolutely! Go to the page "Final Volume (DCA4)" (right click on the plugin) and change the PAN (panning) parameter! :)
ps: Don't forget to save your changed patch...

OK - fixed, try it again.

SQ8L_Banks.rar

I also added the following to the README
README wrote:Note: there is a small bug with the patchnames when loading syx files. Within the SQ-80 there are special number characters for naming a patch. These characters are numbers followed by a period ( #.). Any patches named using a #. character will load with the following character in the name instead.

0. = !
1. = #
2. = %
3. = (
4. = )
5. = :
6. = ;
7. = [

Hi Chris,
Since he states that there are two voices, and I don't think the SQ8L implements patch layering like the hardware, I'm guessing he actually needs to change the panning within each OSC's DCA, where pan has been set as a modulator.

Post

1-2-Many: There is no panning for individual OSCs. Maybe he is talking about a real SQ80 with a layer sound. In that case he has to identify the second patch and make the changes on both patches similar to the plugin.

Btw: Layered sounds are already possible with the plugin - load 2 instances and play them at the same time (2 midi tracks in your host or in case of Cubase SX, you can use the midi inserts to send to a second VSTi). Another way is to use Chainer to create layered synths.

Chris: Is this the synth you used for Giana Sisters, and Turrican?
Another one line religion.

Yes... Giana was pure SID chip though, but the ESQ1 Keyboard was my inspiration for a lot of tunes...

Thank you for answering. I had a lot of your tunes on the c64, and amiga. I loved them both, and the music.
I had an ASR10 myself, but I found your music to have a tighter timing, with the earlier ESQ1. (Maybe I got a bad version, corrupt dealer..)
Another one line religion.

Hi Chris,

Actually there is panning for the individual OSCs; under each OSC's DCA you can select pan as a modulator. So he may indeed be referring to an SQ8L patch ;)

As for your second point - a bit of hair splitting, as of course you can insert as many instances as you wish - however, it's not really 'implemented' as you say, since it doesn't retain layer info for patches. In the original hardware, patches can be designed that layer the currently programmed patch with another patch in memory, and quite a few patches get their sound using this method. BTW, in the hardware, a layered preset can be problematic if it references a patch at a cartridge location, if the wrong cartridge is inserted. . .for this reason, layered patches should be designed to refer to a patch within their bank of 40, but I digress.

I don't know how the SQ8L deals with layered presets when importing syx, most likely it just ignores the layer info. If the future version emulation is to implement layering, lost layer info will no longer be a problem.

Sorry to have to correct you again, but the modulators are always sources, not destinations. In this case, the source refers to midi cc panning (cc #10). Also since the DCAs 1-3 are mixed before the filter and the filter is mono, there can be no panning for the individual OSCs... ;)

Thanks Guy's, I was able to get it from the final volume/pan.(I was talking about the plugin.)
