The rules of the forum appear to be static in stark contrast to the fluidity of the English language.
I give up and I give in.
Principles are subserviant to commerce. Didn't Hugh Hefner once refer to photographs of pubic hair in Penthouse as pornographic? Please remember that I am a platinum member at esoundz.
Here are some marketing ideas that IK might consider using in the future to appeal to young people with disposable income.

"Hey Dawg, you've worked your nuts off pimping that remix but it's off by a kunt-hare (slang for a small distance-ed.). T-Racks Slamming Edition will give all you mo-fo's that needed bling to pimp your mixes all the way to the penthouse. And remember, as Robin the Boy Wonder says- support your local police."

No one said you weren't entitled to your opinion. Just that the SR forum is not the place on KVR where you should discuss this.

Everything everyone said that was contrary to OR supportive of your belief is just as valid.

We took your point and no one ever said you didn't have the right to make it.

I for one, am sorry if you felt otherwise in regards to anything I said.
Play what you feel and feel what you play.

I would add that no one DELETED the thread. It's still there for anyone to view. I would challenge you to show me any other company forum, newsletter, etc. that would actually permit any discussion of a boycott of its products.

Your point of view was certainly given consideration, and still you insist on having the last word. It IS a business, after all, and Squids and company should be commended on their restraint.

Finally, I am sure that the constructive aspects of your critique are, indeed, taken to heart by all those concerned. That's the plus side of this forum.

This isn't the way to approach Squids or Sonic Reality, who has nothing to do with resolving IK's PR inclinations whatsoever.

ps, some Free Good Forum Advice:

Don't argue about asking for the Last Word when you're addressing someone that can lock, delete, even have your account banned if you raise too much trouble.

I agree with you(and aMUSEd) on what you both said, btw.

Hey,don't start ganging up on me!!!!! I've joined your side. It took a couple of posts to change my mind but now I see your point and agree with you whole-heartedly. I misused this forum and I am sorry. I will never post on the SR forum again unless it to sing the praises of SR or ask about up-coming products. Please accept my apologies. The sometimes blurry line between IK and SR side-tracked my anger.

You're also welcome to debate the relative hipness of Squids and Beergeek.

You're even allowed to vote against Squids. Actually, I think ALL the options are for voting against Squids. :hihi:

Haven't you ever read the description of a Big Fish Audio product? ;)

My feeling is just that with marketing jargon and phrases, images etc. relating to pop culture (especially hip hop or rock n roll) there's a good chance you aren't going to please everyone. (not the same marketing you do for an orchestral library) It's always a question of balance though. There's a big difference between using the word "pimp" and "kunt". For example Homer Simpson would never say "nice kunt" (unless he was on HBO). But anyway at least your point was heard and taken. I didn't delete the thread. Just not something directly SR related. If you were criticizing the new Sonic Reality "Pimp yo beats" campaign then that would be different (woops better cancel that one haha).

Cheers. At least there's a sense of humor between everyone which is crucial to KVR. Let's not forget to make some music and laugh with friends.

Actually, that's not true. For one thing SR does have a say in anything IK does as its distributor (remember SR co-produced 2 products in the Total Studio Bundle). I was aware of the "Pimp Your Studio" campaign. It wasn't my idea but I did like it when I heard it. It's funny but even though that's not how I talk, we do have a few employees at SR that do so it didn't even phase me that it would be offensive... maybe for a split second I wondered but not enough to vote no on it.

You know, I don't like to see anyone offended, especially an esoundz member. But reaching a wide demographic requires different marketing speak depending on the products and campaigns. Sometimes less is more. I like "Pimp Your Studio" personally. I think it has a sense of humor to it yet says "get it all!".

You know, actually I was going to do a whole "Go for the gold" campaign for all of the SR gold bundles (Sonic Refill Gold, Miroslav Refill Gold, RAW Gold). One of the ads was going to be some famous hip hop producer who uses our stuff (won't name who) with some gold "bling"... I still think it is a good idea. (a little bit cliche' maybe but... got any better ideas? Haha)

When/if we come out with that Sonic Reality ad we can have an open thread criticizing our morals since this is the SR/esoundz forum. Again, in the company forum rules it says we don't want people to use our forum to criticize companies SR works with. Makes sense. We are running a business and we don't want our forum to be a bone of contention or hurt SR in doing business with our partners. and also keep in mind we get away with a LOT of leaked info early on IK stuff and other benefits of being a peaceful easy going place... so it has been this way for how many years now? Ok. Let's keep it civil and respectful.

I hadn't visited the forum since late August. Why, you ask? Because I have been busy producing an album (new classic rock genre) and Amplitube 2, Ampeg SVX and CSR have been incredible in helping me making this project kick ass. IK/SR products don't need gimmicky marketing.
To successfully use any of the tools I've mentioned requires an understanding of music and audio technology. Average people want the best bang for their buck to achieve their goals. "Go For The Gold" is good because because gold chains on a hip hop artist are not offensive. Does anybody here watch the Daily Show? A couple months ago they did a piece on a pimp who was complaining because a congressman wanted to start taxing his earnings. It was hilarious because pimping is illegal and it's not possible to start taxing money earned illegally. Is it only a matter of time before there's a sitcom about a home for retired pimps? "Pimp My Sagging Ass" starring Sherman Hemsley.

Post

Yes, it has nothing to do with Pimps though. It is a slang word that means "trick out" in this context... which is another bit of slang for "deluxify" which is a made up word that means "get it alllllll".

I get your point that IK doesn't NEED gimmicks to sell very meat & potatoes great products that speak for themselves. But, that doesn't mean it can't benefit from an angle in marketing that perhaps broadens the market. The ad campaign has an urban feel to it and since most of the professional artists (that also happen to have the money to afford the Total Studio Bundle btw) making records today are R&B/Hip Hop genre I believe so it makes some sense to give it that kind of flavor as opposed to just the usual "plug-in, rock out". So, while there are a lot of Rock & Jazz guys who naturally gravitate toward things like AmpliTube and Ampeg SVX the idea of just getting the whole darn thing for the ultimate BAMF virtual studio gear in one shot (one opportunity hehe) is not bad! IMHO.

By the way, I was thinking more about offensive product names and marketing. There are quite a few! "Electric Mistress" bother anyone? ;) Or what do you think BFD stands for???? :o The music industry has a lot of latitude generally speaking. I am sure there are a lot of other examples. Not that it makes it okay if someone else does it but... again, companies do their best shot in marketing that think of at the time. For a while NI had an ad going that said "Make the Impossible Impossible". I have NO IDEA what on Earth they were going for with that! But, they don't have the marketing team of Coca Cola coming up with the copy so... hey whatever works.

Yeah. What was Tommy Lee's quote for the product as well? Hey, I wasn't offended. In fact, I applaud Angus, Skot and the Bitcrusher for doing it! But... I imagine it was offensive to some more conservative peeps.

Anyway............... I think this still qualifies as Bobby getting the last word in which he deserves. Also, Bobby, make no mistake that we're grateful that you have been such a great customer of esoundz and hope that you continue to be in the future. I will try to avoid alluding to pimps on esoundz as much as possible if that counts for anything. ;)

Cheers.
