So I was screwing around and made a little glitch track the other day, and I got to wondering... is there still a point to persuing this?

Glitch (the musical genre, not the VST) is it still relevant? Still underground, at all? Still a viable medium in which to publish albums?

Or is glitch destined to go the way of... industrial *shudder*.

Glitch has been put to sleep by people who have no ideas and just want to load up some wanky effect and then render the results without even thinking about what it is they are trying to do.

There's no emotion involved, and that's why most of it sucks.

I'd hardly call it new or fresh anymore, but it's still dope

I'm more into microhouse myself, and I'm still finding quality new releases that don't sound like bandwagon jumping bollocks.

But yeah, i voted dBlue made it too easy, now even my Mom can glitch

hm hm hm on topic Glitch as I understand it was very happening ca '99-'02 or so and the more happening it is at one point, the more 'dead' it is once the hype is on its way out.
What a stuuupid notion though...there is no such thing as a dead genre/artform unless it's not being practised anymore!

No art form is worth practicing just to keep it alive. If that's the notion, then you're limiting your output to the accepted definition of the genre.

What you should be doing, is practicing your art. I started going thru your clips from your album, and I damn well like them.

You definatley captured the feel that you describe in that it's perky, it's electronic and at the same time, it has a bit of the unexplored sonic territory cutting away at the edges to make things a bit less normal than you'd expect.

I don't like glitch and I don't understand it. But who cares.

If you like glitch music and you like creating (composing?) glitch music, then you should do so. If it's a chore and you only do it because it's fashion... well... that would be hard for me to believe.

When I play guitar, I play blues, whether or not other people like that genre, whether it's dead or not... That's the style that I like to play.

Or maybe I misunderstood the question, and it's not about glitch as a (your) musical style, but as a possible commercial market for your FX plugins??

My plugins have a market?! Double ha! You're a riot.

My FSU FX commercial demographic consists of approximately 10 people my friend.

Anyway...

No, I mean is the genre itself stale at this point from a -criticism- perspective. Not a -classic- one.

I just don't think that Glitch is an analog for Blues insofar as musical genres are concerned. The two rely on entirely different methods for captivating the listener. One goes for shock, the other empathy. But how many times can you shock the monkey until he doesn't even feel it anymore? But the monkey will always be a monkey, dig?
