Look at it this way Jack - John Cage had exposure to .00001% of the people that KVR has today let's say... And over 25% here today know who John Cage is right? So, had he given up and went the way of Neil Sedaka - would we give him the respect and awe that he still holds today?

Long story short, it boils down to the fact that all electro-subgenres have an expiration date... that's how I feel. I am always looking for something new and futuristic, and when I start to hear my musical experiments sound say "of an era" I feel trapped and panicky and obsolete. This goes against my ideals of being said "new and futuristic". Of course I do realize how small the corner will become as I paint myself further into it.

I did lots of glitch experiments with Z-Sides, so for me to make more music like that, even further evolved, is to me... a cop-out, the "easy way out".

So I guess I feel that if everyone else says glitch is done (at least for now) then that's the final kick in my ass to really push myself to find the next level... instead of mucking about in a level that has been solidified in one single plugin.

maybe finding the beauty in the noise, sampling a snippet, turning it into a beautiful instrument, and writing music with it?

Nah. I was doing that four years ago on the album Potboiler under the guise of Robot Heart. Sampling the wierdest parts of synth pieces or noise fx and isolating them and then turning those bits into multi-samples for sequencing. Post-industrial sorta thing.

Besides, didn't Matmos do that to death already?

as far as glitch being dead... i don't buy into genres. they are invented to explain away beauty, or t0 elevate trash. if your music glitches and it is beautiful, it will never be dead. you can't put beauty in that kind of box.

----Sony has a "glitch" loop cd out, like 2 years ago, so it's long dead as cutting edge/underground. However, you can always take it to the radio and Nine Inch Nails it, like he did with Skinny Puppy and others before them. It has not hit the mainstream really, (cept vocal stutters edgads), so it's got room to sell out still.
----If you want to be futuristic sounding, go back in time and invent drum-n-bass, cause that's still the cyber soundtrack sh*t if ya ask me.

Is a themed artwork gallery a hallway of trash? No, it is a streamlined concession of like-minded artists.

Genres serve to accumulate related material at best, and steer the vapid minded at worst.
