Can't help but notice that the Garritan Group buy includes the Kontakt 2 Player.

So the question is: were I to spring, would the enclosed Kontakt 2 player with say, oh, the Violin set be able to load other sample sets? Like maybe Kirk Hunter?

Oh please?

(Forgive my obvious ignorance - no doubt it's been discussed, buy my searching skills seem to be lacking......)

It can not, simple as that, the Kontakt player that comes with any of the Garritan products, will only play those Garritan products.

The best you can get is if NI is still offering a cheap upgrade to Kontakt2 from a "Kontakt player" instrument.

Current crossgrade price in NI's shop = 229 EUR. (Full Kontakt 2 price 399 EUR)

So, whaddoweyoulikeyouknow: do, to get Kirk to wrap a player around his sample set?

Has anyone asked him nicely?

You pay him what he'd have to pay NI to license the K2 player...
