What are some good sample libraries with just hits like the ones from storm drum
or something similar?

Post

Storm Drum itself?

I suppose you are after the ethnic samples and not the plenty acoustic and electronic drumkits?

Yes with various world percussion hits from
those types of drums. :)

As Stormdrum is only $198 these days most other libraries are more expensive such as Flying hand percussion and Truestrike 2.

If it's still available Doru Malaia has/had a Ethnic percussion sample DVD for around $30. His domain doesn't seem to work though, so perhaps it isn't

If you have Stylus RMX there's EthnoTechno sage expander for $99.

BFD has a percussion expansion as well.

the G-Town Church Sampling Project has a lot of drums, percussions, anvils, stomps

Ambient Drums has some very Storm Drum-ish stuff, recorded with large ambiences (actually available in both wet/dry). Its more experimental/electronic though. Check out the demos :)

Wow - the G-Town WAVs are great! Thanks for pointing them out!

I wonder if anyone has created any sfz programs for the chromatic samples - would certainly be useful if they'd like to share them! :)

The anvils and the wood sticks are really really great to have - fills a big gap for me. The rest of the percussion is great as well.

G-Town are available in WAV and GIGA form, Rellik. The WAV samples are unmapped, the GIGA are already. The GIGA version is a bit hard to come by, maybe I should offer it on my page (torrent tracker) - but not before saturday.

I used some of those samples in "Chrono Symphonic". Especially "Manifest Destiny" by Ravi Sharma (SirRus). If I can remember, the Anvils and the concert base drum (if it wasn't from a Roland SF2) and one or two of the FX stuff to create that massive percussion sound. The indian-sleight-stick sound however was layered from 4 different sounds from an Ethnic VSTi).

Very impressive indeed. A pity that they stopped working on it.

IMO if you have your heart set on StormDrum as the 'gold standard' of what you want to achieve, it's better just to save up for that than to fiddle around collecting lots of stuff of varying quality/formats and having to weed through it.

I don't own SD, but I'm just speaking from experience with other sounds/samples/FX.
