Shortcircuit- sample formats!! newbie

I am looking at shortcircuit as a sampler it seems to get great reviews in regards to usability, stabilty, sound quality. However, because it dosen't come with a sample library, I would obviously be looking for sounds in other places.
The only somewhat negative review I find is that it dosen't support a ton of formats: these are the formats it supports...
RIFF wave-files (.wav) (8/16/24/32-bit & 32-bit float, mono/stereo at any sample rate)
AKAI S5000/S6000/Z4/Z8 .akp banks (partial)
NI battery kits (partial)
Soundfont 2.00 (partial)
Propellerhead Recycle 1 & 2
I am tottally new to the whole sampling and sampling format thing, but I am concerned that I may be pigeonholing myself with these formats...
I am doing hip-hop and so I want to get A LOT of my sounds from samples and map them as instruments (then do the sequencing in pro tools). If ANYONE has used shortcircuit and/or make hip hop, can u comment on this issue (for instance, what does it mean that akai and battery is "partially" compatible?).
Also, does "RIFF" wav mean it dosent handle regular wav files? Again, I am a newbie, but if i were to plug a turntable into my interface and sample from a record, wouldnt that come out in "normal" wav. format? Could I not then slice and sample the sounds from the record using SC?
ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!
peace

Shortcircuit reads any standard wave files. You shouldnt have any problem there.
Partial support for Akp, Battery and Soundfont means that Short circuit will not play these files with exactly all functions of the original soft or hardware.
Basic functions are there though that will allow you to play the files and edit them.

Yes normally you will have that option in any software.

Yes you can.
I suggest you check out Vember audios forum and ask Claes or someone else there for details.

you really should ddownload short circuit free. it has all the features of the full version, except it only has two voices and you can not load more than two instances. if you're aiming for hip hop/ break beat kind of stuff, short cirquit (maybe even the free version) is a very good choice becouse of the very good resampling quality (samples dont loose punch or change character as muxch as others do when you change the pitch). (i use the free version all the time and may get the full version before its too late)

cool thanks for the help guys... also, i was researching on how samplers take a sound (like bass for instance) and once u map the bass sound up and down the scale you can play it like a real instrument. xnah told me that once you set up loop points and hold the key longer or shorter than the oringinal samples length, for example, the way that sound "ends" (a clean end as oppoosed to an abrubt or faded ending) depends on the samplers "ADSR" envelope. The vemberaudio website says shortcircuit has 2 AHDSR envelopes / voices. If you have used shortcircuit, any testimonial to this? (this question may be WAY to detalied and not important, tell me if it is!)

ShortCircuit is a very good (but sadly underrated) sampler/synth.
I will recommend you get it 100%
There is a new version on the way sometime and I think Claes said V1 owners get the upgrade free (don't quote me on that). Either way SC is the best full featured sampler I have ever used.
