I finally got midix.hta to work on win me.

The registry file provided never worked, but regsvr32.exe works.

I use this instead of the suite most of the time, the suite causes sticky notes.

I have been using my EZ-AG live at church for the past 6 weeks. I layer the piano sound from the EZ with various pads on an outboard Kawai K1. I have cultivated a "piano-like" finger-picking style over the past several years on my Ovation and found the EZ-AG a pretty seamless transition and very expressive. I got the unit on a Friday and went live that Sunday. The choir and congregation are really enjoying the new sound.

Recently discovered that the EZ-EG has a full set of General Midi sounds onboard. (Should have guessed from the demo songs.) Several of them are suitable for my performance needs (a bright piano, a decent rhodes, some nice strings & other pads). Just needed a way to get to them from the EZ w/o a computer.

I got a Midi Solution Event Processor box last week and have been working up a program to use the box to loop the EZ-AG INTO ITSELF. I have done the usual mapping of CH1-6 out to CH1 in. In addition, I mapped the 12th fret buttons (never played way up there) to do program changes to my favorite General Midi sounds for internal Ch1. Soon, I will have it set up to be able to use the 11th fret buttons to layer in my favorite pads on internal Ch2.

This box will make my EZ-AG a fairly decent multi-timbral which I can control from the front of the EZ during a song! I plan to be able to add or remove layered sounds, or change the main sound smoothly mid-song. Later, I hope also to add octave doubling on lower strings, velocity-triggered chimes, effect sounds, etc.

I would love to hear experiences from anyone else who is hooking an Event Processor to the EZ.

Wow, nice use of the processor!

I ordered an EZ-EG last week thinking (like others who have posted) that it would be a nice upgrade to my oft-used AG. The fully lit frets and continuous control (whammy) were exciting possibilities for my event processor programming, but when I tried to play it at a rehearsal .... yuck. The strings were so stiff an unresponsive. They really need to be picked hard (like, with a pick). It does strum OK, but when I want to strum or flat pick, I use my real guitar. Other downsides to the EG were a miniscule headphone jack (verses the 1/4" on the AG), and the "mute string when touched" behavior. I thought this later would be an advantage in control when playing, but find that it tends more to chop off the nice sustained sound I am going for when playing "piano".

I sent it back and ate the shipping.
Lesson learned.

Well, they are different animals. I play mainly electric
guitar with a pick so the EG works really well for me.
I have'nt played an AG yet but, if the difference between
it and the EG is at all analogous to the difference between
an electric guitar and a nylon stringed classical, I don't
think I'd like the AG very much. I agree that the 1/8" out
jack SUCKS!! I'm thinking about modding my EG with 1/4 audio
out and sturdier midi I/O jacks to make the thing a little
more stage worthy. Please keep us posted on your experiments
with the Event Processor. I've been using a Yamaha MEP4
midi event processor which has greatly enhanced the EG's
usefullness but I feel like I've barely scratched the surface
of what I can do with it! :D

Very cool!! 8) I'm going to have to try those tricks with
the MEP4. :)

Hi folks,

I'm about to purchase a EZ-EG.
I've noticed that there are (what looks like anyway) two versions of the EG model.
e.g. from what I can see, the control knobs are different, one version has them on top of the body and the other nicely build into the body.
Question being, as there are 71 pages here and NO i'm not lazy, i will read it all in good time. :hihi:
Is there any difference between the two ?
Something i should really know ?

Three questions:

How is the EG-AZ with orchestral work?

Do hammer-ons/pull-offs work ok?

Anyone tried to trigger drums with one?

Huh! I wasn't even aware there were different versions, but sure enough I can find pictures of two different kinds on the net.

Your guess is as good as mine!

Either works fine, particularly with the scripts.

Here's an ancient video of me playing solo violin sounds

Again, works especially well if you use the script programs, but not too well straight from the guitar in combination with some synths (some handle it better than others). Listen to my cover of Herbie Hancock's "Chameleon" to hear a the lead entirely on EZ-EG with my script, all via two-handed tapping on the fretboard.

Yup, all that does indeed work great with the scripts. With standalone hardware synths
it can be hit-or-miss. I've gotten very good results with Yamaha synths,(go figure! ),and Kawai synths, not so good with some Roland synths...the SH-32 being a very notable exception. Adding an event processor to your hardware rig can help overcome
some of these limitations. I'm using a Yamaha MEP4 and others have gotten good results
with the Midi Solutions Event Processor....as to the two different EG versions, I'm pretty
sure its just cosmetic...though those recessed knobs sure do look spiffy...gonna keep my
eye out for one of those....I want a second unit to to do some mods on.

I just got a EZ-EG guitar. I found midi files to download on Yamaha's website that allow you to learn while playing, but cost $6 for each song. Are there any websites or anything that have similar midi files that teach you the song for less/free?

Post

I'm not sure because I have no use for this feature and
have never used the EZ as a learning tool, but I believe
that EZ songs are some special proprietary format. You
can, of course, play back standard midi files on your
EZ from your computer but I don't believe you'll get
all the bells and whistles.

Do your ez-eg's make a different sound when you do a hammer-on? I don't know if it is just mine or not, but when I strum on one note, and do a hammer-on, it makes a different sound, then when I strum on that new note, it goes back to the normal sound.
