A free audio editor that can find loop points in samples and save them along with the wav files. Is there such a beast? I know Zerox looper does it, but its not free.
Is there a free "loop-finder" for wav samples?

I don't know of very many "commercial" apps that can automatically find loop points, yet alone "free" ones.

maybe I am totally wrong, but wasn't there at least something like that made by the maker of Orion in the past? There rings a bell
...maybe you'd pm Bones or Kriminal or ask in the Orion-Forum http://www.synapse-audio.com/forum/. But well, I might be compleeetely wrong here. And then if such a thing existed it wasn't an audio editor, simply an, erm, loop-finder

I have once found one of these, but unfortunately I don't remember what it was anymore. Maybe because it didn't work too well...

Hi
Don't know of anything free that is any good, but my favorite loop tool lately is the one in Extreme Sample Convertor. It is very cool as you just drag the wave in a graphical screen and you can align crossover points very easily using this. If any of you guys have ESC, give looping a shot in it as it surprised me. But ... ears and manual adjustments are needed on some wavs no matter what app you use.

There are two kinds of looping: (1) looping an instrument note sample, generally a short looped clip near the end of the sample, and (2) looping a whole clip that you want repeated.
I haven't heard any good automatic solution for either. I agree with manytone that EXSC's loop tool is fantastic. It's not automatic, but it makes finding really good loop points surprisingly easy. I've only used it for instrument note samples, not clips, but it would probably work just as well for looping clips.

Thanks folks! I should have been more clear. I dont care for an audio editor - i just need a program that will find the perfect loop point. It doesnt have to be automatic. That is, I drag the timeline over a specific region, and it snaps to the closest zero point so that a perfect loop is created (if the beginning is in a zero point). Sorry to provide much confusion, but all i need is a tool that will snap to the zero point of a sample and save that as a loop point.

Thanks from me as well.
Loop Editor is another nice thing, if you have a Mac.
