I wish they worked for AT2 SJ but it's only the standard VST 'program list' automation lane that's available. The 2 problems with that are 1 - that's not available for mapping to the generic remote and 2 - The AT2 plugin itself has only 1 program available! If you look in the plugin information it tells you how many are available to each plugin (Nb Programs) and AT2 has just the one :(

Doesn't the "RT Player Lite" allow you to use A2 in standalone mode???

I am also looking for a way to remote control changing presets, and have not found a method yet to do this ... also I am NOT planning on buying StompIO ...

So are there only 2 users who need MIDI remote for changing presets ???

There is GTR of Waves too...

and i think that it's really natural and good !!

As squids states the way they break up is excellent and appears more natural to me than guitar rig 2 (I am having fun using the stomps from GR2 with AT2 though)

One small miss for me is preset navigation appears less intuitive than GR2.
There might be a cool update coming regarding this. That's all I can say about that at the moment.

Also, I agree that even if you might like the amp sims and particular effects (whenever I say "particular" now I think of that girl with the retainer in "My Name Is Earl"... if you know the episode, pretty funny) that if you own some of the other sims like GR2 you can at least use it as a box of effects. That's one of the good things about these types of products I think! Of course, I am one of those people who has spent the same price as any of these software packages for just ONE vintage stomp pedal.

I just ordered the Roland bundle for my UAD. I actually have all three of the real thing but... I still like the idea of having it virtual (and multiple instances of Pultecs and Dimension Ds makes me happy :D ). Out of curiosity I will compare AT2's CE-1 with the UAD's. I can also compare it to my real CE-1 although AT2's model IS of my actual CE-1 so... it may have some advantages of matching at least mine (if they even sound different from one another). Someone needs to model the Roland Jet Phaser (I used to have one of those... I should get one again and beg someone to model it! The new way to preserve your favorite effects ;) ).

I am glad someone mentioned the Supro! YES! This is a great little amp. I used to have the same model that Page used with early Zep records. I also have this Danelectro acoustic/electric guitar with lipstick pickups that is very similar to the Silvertone he used too. Nice combination. I sampled that one for Studiophonik (for those that know what that is... Squids plugs his next plug! ;) ) and you have a knob to mix between the miked acoustic and the direct. Running that through AT2's Supro sounds GREAT!

Wait until you guys hear Ampeg by the way. We're putting it up on pre-order next week on www.esoundz.com (that should give you a little idea that it is coming pretty soon since we don't usually do pre-orders unless it is less than 4 weeks away). A nice crossgrade discount for AT2 users as well.

I will pass on some of the things I got from this useful and respectful thread. I am with you on some attack and release on a gate effect. I'd like to have that for sure. I have my own wish list going as well. I don't want to say what it is yet but if it happens then some of you will be really GLAD!

Oh, as for stand alone, apart from requests for various midi control things which I understand the basic function of running lean and without a sequencer can be accomplished with something like Chainer (I recommend NOT using that RTPlayer... I have heard too many things and I think it may be coming down from the site as an extra thing anyway). But, for the ultimate remote control the Stomp system will be quite seductive in features, performance and convenience. I mean, you have access to 4,000 presets with various modes of calling them up live or in the studio and a real hardware experience controlling parameters. For me, the best part is the 6 expression control inputs (that I think can also be routing to other midi CCs... even as a keyboard player that is handy!). I like the idea of essentially having what would be "CV control" in hardware but on practically any parameter of the effects!!!! Reminds me of my old Mutron Bi-Phase pedal.

Has anybody noticed the silence/noise that happens when you change between two presets? As it stands right now, this plug would be totally unusable in a live situation... I hope they improve the speed here as well...

Post

Thanks for the update, Squids.

I appreciate that StompIO will be a good product, but I am not interested in buying another foot controller in the near term.

I hope for everyone's sake that StompIO is usable as a standard MIDI device, instead of being another "custom" foot controller ...

I really hope IK will update AT2 with full MIDI learn for ALL parameters plus MIDI preset changing ...

Post

Well I just got a response from IK tech support.

Here's my question:

I am trying to set Amplitube 2 up as a live guitar rig but cannot find the midi control settings I need.

I want to be able to change a patch via midi but can't get Cubase, Tracktion or Live to save Amplitube 2 presets. There seems to be no automation data available for midi patch changes - is it impossible to change a patch via midi?

I also want to bypass Amp A or B via midi but cannot find the midi/automation data for that either.

I'm extremely happy with the sound quality of Amplitube 2 but I seriously hope more thought is given to the live performance features - and not just when used with your Stomp IO product!

Here's the response:

Dear lindsay

Thank you for your request.

You would control AT2 through Cubase automation. It does not offer direct Midi control. However the automation functions allow you to control virtually every feature.

Not the most helpful response...

I also have absolutely ZERO interest in the foot controller. And, if all of the controller functions are only available through the stomp then AT2 will get about ZERO use from me.

Purposefully crippling the software to boost sales of the stomp is a mistake. Although I don't count for much, it will turn me from a supporter to being disgruntled rapidly. I DON'T WANT ANOTHER f**king PEDAL. I have an awsesome MIDI stomp board with all of the pedal jacks I need. Holding those functions hostage is pathetic.

I have not tried to set up a control for patch change yet. If what Linz says is true, this is really bad.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

I doubt it. My guess is that most people are still playing with it from a tweak standpoint and haven't tried to actually integrate it into a controller type rig.

This is another big miss.

If "RT Player" is not the greastest for Amplitube...are they're any other FREE host options for it???

wonder if some of you has tried wah wah automation in amplitube 2 stomp section under Cubase SX, Nuendo, Sonar, etc. wah wah playback under automation get annoying zippering or stroboscopic stepped audio in cubase sx3. The weird is this doesn't happen in recording process, wahwah does sound right under mouse motion at automation data recording but subsequent playback is bad. I try min and max values in automation reduction level on CubSX preferences, record on 24 and 16 bit, different latency values in my M-audio Delta 44 setup but nothing seem fix that. The ugly noise still even in final rendered audio. First time I get such thing on my cubase automation tasks. It could be great If some of you can make test on wah wah automation and told us about.

This is a rendered audio sample of the annoying step sound I am getting with amplitube 2 automation on stomp wahwah http://sitiopro.com/music/strobozipperwah.mp3

I remark on all is right with automation on Guitar Rig 2 and other plugins and vsti's. I like Amplitube 2, it certainly got serious improvement over version 1 but I think IKMM have to polish roughness in order to bring a superb product.

My PC conf: AMD 3 ghz, 2 gb ram ,160 gb 7200 rpm/8 mb buffer audio HD, m-audio delta 44 and all the rest of usual right stuff on board.

The wahwah stomp has an "auto" feature, I would LOVE if the volume pedal had one too (or some other "slow gear" type effect), quite essential to my style of playing. :)

Ditch RT Player. I use SAVIHost for all my non-standalone VSTs. Works like a charm. Standalone mode is not an issue as long as you use VST host or SAVIhost.
