I've allready stopped using this because it's just hardly legible on my screen. The size, combined with the aliasing/contrast on the text makes for headache inducing oatmealling ;)
I could drop down my resolution, but that'd just make work in just about every other program i have less productive.
Lovely skins though, and i'll be sure to recommend them when i'm pimping Oatmeal to other people :D

I could have a meddle if yer like... what's the problem with the current GJ layout, forgive my ignorance but I don't see it being an awful lot different to the default large skin?

Give me an idea of what you're after and I can see how good PaintShopPro is now at opening Photoshop gfx... :-o :)

.g
Basically just bigger. :P The large one that comes with oatmeal is a perfect size overall, the size of the text....basically that's the main problem, i can't read the text clearly...i can read it, but i have to strain a little. The layout is excellent, that's one of the reasons i'd love to use them. The original is great, i can say that now because i am used to it, but you can just see the 'flow' of the GJ ones is better, aswell as being damn fine looking.

Edit: Just noticed mighty peas post.....yeah, all that too. :P My current res is 32bit colour, 1280x1024 @85hz.

Post

i'm running at 1280x1024 and i have 0 problem using the skin. i have 32bit color also.

what is the problem seriously? the legibility is bad why? is it old crt's your using? i admit i'm on a flatpanel 19" :) but even when i checked it on the CRT at work it was easy to ready. whats is the dotpitch of your displays? :P

Post

I have 2 monitors, CRT and flat panel. There is a noticable difference but not bad enough to be unreadable. It is a bit small though and I've found myself leaning forward to read the text at times.

It's all good! Don't sweat it Grymm.

Post

i'm not sweating it ;) just was curious.

i've done enough work on this skin for a long while. i may eventually make another oatmeal one but it wont be for a while.

Now someone give this man a *real* GUI job to work on!
These skins are just absolutely great. And (as if we wouldn't know already), his other work is as well!
I seriously hope that all this will take you a step further, grymmjack. You deserve it!

Ok, curious now, am I the only one who got the pop up that goes:

Have you seen that movie from that guy in that show?
signed: Oatmeal

While playing with the random button?

Great skin grymmjack BTW.

There's various popups in Oatmeal when using the randomizer.
Funny guy, that Fuzzpilz.

sascha, thanks for your support.

though it's funny i don't really do it to try and get money. i do it for fun and because i am sick in the head as it's a great deal of work always which keeps me busy.

i think to make money doing UI's you have to be good like that guy who does the 3D stuff or decoder design quality good. that work is truly excellent and consistently so. i have nothing like that to offer a commercial company atleast with 3D, and it seems like all the companies are wanting 3D hardware-esque skins.

no worries though because it's fun and that's the reason i like to do it. plus now that oatmeal maple and brown sugar skin is completed, oatmeal is much more usable for me and blends in perfectly with my tracktion2 so it feels 'complete' to use it. i know that sounds silly but, it really impacts my thinking. i've been having a total blast programming oatmeal.

i have komplete4 just sitting there which i paid over $300 for the upgrade, and i've been spending all my time with oatmeal. i dont think it's a waste for komplete4 of course, i will get to that eventually (reading the manuals at night actually before bed on PDF via notebook to get up to speed w/k4) it's just crazy and indicative to how misplaced my head is when it comes to music and the instruments.

i think part of this problem is that when you skin something, and i'm sure others can speak for this too who have done such, you kind of bond with it -- you kind of become the thing which you are skinning, you become so intimate with it that you almost fall in love with it. this is what has happened to me with oatmeal. it's such a deep and complex instrument that the potential for the beautiful music we can make together might as well be infinite, for i'm sure i will never tap it's fullest potential.

i think it's something sound programmers may feel too about a given synth. you get so familiar with something that the something becomes an extension of your mind, body, soul, etc, and that is definitely something magical that you cannot put a price on.

anyway thank you very much for your kind words sascha, i look up to you and so it means especially alot. thank you to everyone else who enjoys the efforts too. now it is our turn to make the oatmeal legacy stronger by building good patches. i am no nolwenn, totc, or tim conrardy, but when i finally complete some that are nice, i will definitely share them (and not to start a stirring of the shit, but i will not be using the random button at all -- i feel that while it's great, it is not going to help me learn how to wield the oatmeal in a way i want).

Ach...nevermind. :P
