ManyStation presets - organized by type?

alot of the presets in ManyStation (not soundsets) are organized by designer rather than type/instrument.
SO...has anyone re-organized them according to the type of sound? I'm finding I'm wasting alot of time trying to go through the presets when I'm looking for a particular sound as it's simply not organized in that way. For example....when looking for an ambient or fx patch...I have to go thru each preset folder trying to locate those patches as they're not all under a common sound folders like "ambient" or "fx". obviously when making music and wanting a particular sound for a part....this is not working well at all.

Hi holymoly
That is something we want to do here, but have not got to it yet.
I would like a separate folder Titled "ManyStation Presets by Type" or something like that. Inside that would be all the folders organised like Bass, Pad, Guitar, etc etc.
We also want to keep the Sound designers folders as they are also though as, it shows their work in a more complete way. That was one of the cool things a bunch of folks liked, but I do agree we want to offer them categorized also.
Maybe someone has already done this???
Let us know but if not I will do it sometime soon.
Thanks
Paul

Going thru the presets this afternoon...I think it can be easily done with a little work since most of the presets are already prefixed with the type of sound...with the exception of one preset folder with no prefixes; i think there needs be a "standard" format in preset names to make it easier to go thru (and looks better too!).
Are WusikStation's presets categorized by type or are they kind of just thrown in designer folders as well?
I think the first thing would be to agree on a list of categories and then start throwing each one into the appropriate folders...depends how detailed a category is needed, i.e Guitar (Acoustic), Guitar (Electric), etc... or just a Guitar category.
Another thing to think about is if when they go into Categories - does the designer's name also need to be included in the preset filename? so some things/"standards" really need to be laid out first.

Hi
Yes ..all good points to follow.
As we will also have the presets as they are now in the designer category, The for the categorized ones we won't have to change anything as the names are in the other folders for guys who wish to see that info.
But if you wish to have a go at setting up an idea for Categories based on the presets then please do.
I'm still pretty busy for a bit here before I would be able to get to it, but all the input you want to suggest I am up for.
WusikStation Has its presets already categorized by type of sound.
Cheers and thanks

ok paul...phase 1 is complete - i manage to put everything into folders according to their preset prefix, so right now I have these folders:
Arps
Bass
Drums
Guitar
Guitar Acoustic
Guitar Electric
Guitar Synth
Initialize
Instrument
Keys
Lead
NO CATEGORY YET
OF
Pads
Percussion
Rhythm
Sequences
Sound FX
Splits
Strings
Synths
Winds
X-Y Sounds
When I copied all the designer presets into the respective TYPE folders, I renamed each preset to something as follows in order to keep their name associated with the presets:
BASS - JAN - Deviance.WusikPRST
BASS - MT - EDirt.WusikPRST
BASS - TC - JazzBassMute.WusikPRST
...etc
Pad - JAN - New Age.WusikPRST
Pad - MT - Epic.WusikPRST
Pad - RSMUS7 - classola SM.WusikPRST
...etc
....you get the idea.
Alot of the TOTC/B&B presets don't have prefixes though, so these were renamed with only their name and placed in the NO CATEGORY YET folder. I'll need to go thru each one and place them where I think they should end up. A couple of the designers also didn't prefix a few of their presets, so these are in this folder as well.
Phase 2 = go thru the NO CATEGORY YET presets and define where each preset should go.
Phase 3 = this is where I'll probably ask your input on whether categories should be broken to sub-categories, like BASS SYNTH, BASS ACOUSTIC, etc.... or just leave everything under the BASS category; obviously this would be alot easier, but everyone works differently, so...
for example...you have some presets prefixed with "EGtr" while others just prefixed them with "Gtr".
Anyway....it's X-Mas Eve - I have no idea why I'm working on this!! It's nice to have all the X-Mas shopping done and don't have to battle the traffic/crowds today. It was NUTS yesterday even at 3:30pm!!
BTW - this project does NOT include the FreeZone stuff...yet! just the ManyStation presets for now...

Holy Moly, holymoly!
Nice! Yes this looks fantastic! Thanks so much for taking the time to do all this. This will be great stuff i am sure to have it all organized like this.
I would think myself that all related presets perhaps go into one folder instead of sub folders, as it kind of allows for a bit easier browsing especially if there are only a few in each sub category, in that case I think all in the main category would be better.
Again, thanks a ton for working on this it looks great just reading what you have done. If you want to slightly rename the presets prefix, then surely do so if it makes things work better.
Now go enjoy Xmas first though.... Got all my shopping done also, but have a mass of wrapping to do, which i usually do Xmas eve at 2 in the morning. It is only the 23rd here so you must be across the world from me?
Ahhhh i see you edited it is eve eve.
Cheers

i'm actually down here in Houston, so I was already "tomorrow" in my head when I typed that! anyway, beautiful day here today (and the damn weather folks said it was going to be pouring rain - tells you what they know!!) and the kids are outside playing with their early MASSIVE gift from "mommy & daddy" - RAINBO Playset! damn thing cost more than our deck! I've got no problem spending money on the kids or the wife, but when it comes to me....I just seem to be so damned picky & tight - it ain't like I don't have the money!!
hey no sweat Paul....I've been really thinking about doing this ever since I picked all your stuff up as that's how I work when creating music (by type) and I'm not one to have the patience to create presets myself as all those guys do a great job already - why re-invent the wheel!??
, so.....yeah, no problem - just might take a little time to fine-tune everything. i'll surely keep you posted and once I have things organized to my liking - I'll ZIP everything up and PM you the link to download it and we can go from there.
I agree.....for now, probably just best to throw all the BASSES (for example) into 1 BASS folder. In essence, the way I've renamed everything (also to help me keep organized)...you can essentially throw everything into one massive folder if someone wanted to do that, but for sanity sake...I'll be fine-tuning all the presets into your typical "type" folders and forget doing sub-folders.
One thing I like about ManyStation/Wusikstation that the likes of other samplers don't have is the WaveSequencer as that's different (I like different!) and the presets are real nice and usable. Hmmm...I might just have to throw a demo together! I have yet to post any music on KVR, so I feel my time is due....I'm just wierd about the whole copyright bit.
I'm lucky, Paul....as my wonderful wife does all the wrapping and doesn't complain.
my wrapping sucks anyway...
But I'll be like you up X-Mas eve after she goes down wrapping HER stuff!

phase 2 complete - onto phase 3....probably take a few days going thru each preset and categorize them correctly + tomorrow and 25th are days off.
Merry Christmas!
