Strange but true.. I believe in the triangular relationship between instrument, artist and reproduction device. My amp seems to tell me telepathically whether my music is any good (even when switched off). My own litmus test is: would I be happy hearing this music on the radio, through that amp?

End of story.
Hardly.
actually i think it says alot. That someone could know nothing of music theory and yet write some very cool stuff -- but at the same time, the opposite can be true. It really depends on each person. Just dont let personal feelings, pride, or preconceptions get in your way.

but of course, your way is probably best right, fink?
Probably. I suspect that music theory will outlast the death of the patron saint of emo.

Just a guess.
your kidding - i thought emo's worshipped the new mature green day or something - not angry madman kurt

but on the theory thing i'm pretty sure hendrix knew none - he certainly never got any formal lessons
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

hahahaahahhahaha the patron saint of emo.... suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure....

how about emotion in general will outlast any "theory" whatsoever. And people will make up their own theories.

HI

"Hendrix Technique was considered unorthodox, which left many music experts wandering about his accomplishments on the guitar, but I think he became that good because he was always playing, whether alone or jamming with other musicians.

This is the important factor. Never heard of a great player, who did not at some period in his development, practise eight to ten hours a day."

From: http://www.freeguitar-class.com/Jimi-Hendrix.html

People should get real with this stuff: you practice several hours a day, jam with people and so on; you WILL learn the theory - do people think that musicians simply 'get it' - as if out of context of the theory!

All the people moaning about 'theory' are almost certainly unacomplished in playing an instrument (like me), if they were anything else thay would stop talking about 'theory' like it was an insult to their lack of ability!

Flipper.

Not once through these 7 pages and the 26 pages of the other thread where this discussion kicked off have I read anything to indicate that people moaning about theory (moaning? Really?) thought it were an insult to their lack of ability (lack of? Really?)

You're clutching at straws, or should I said hairs. The hairs of a gnats balls to be precise.

Quoted for truth.

ps: Nuffink, you used the term "emo" in a way that made me think you were being negative about "emo" - what say ye? :hihi:
