Hi Guys

This may be a post that could be moved to the new Music Theory forum rather than Production forum
Sascha, others ...what do you think ...shall I leave it or move it there? Seems a prime candidate to me for the new forum, though there is a bit of overlap with production techniques also.

Anybody mind if I move it?

Sure, move it.

Sascha - I may have said some time in the past when you expounded on musical theory at KvR, but I'd love to just insert all your knowledge in my head - Matrix style.

Today I'll learn "Music Theory according to Sascha Franck"......ziiiiiiiiiip! Done!

:D

I'm going to go back and read your posts scattered throughout this thread and if I'm energetic enough, collate it into a text file.

Yeah Sascha really has a knack for teaching theory, what he wrote is truely clear and it really got me started, I hope he gets his posting about it further.

Well, seems Compyfox had not all that much of a further interest in it so far.
I'll try to see what I can come up with in the theory forum one day...

Well, I didn't followed all that it was written on this thread and maybe I'm gonna repeat what was allready said, but looking at the score I would go with the "almost" major D scale. I'm saying almost because there is that B flat that doesn't fit in. It's an altered modal scale constructed on major D for the first four notes: D,E,F#,G, and harmonic minor D for the next four notes: A,Bb,C#,D.
There is a G# in the second part, but it has only a secondary role (melody coloration).

As for a simple chord progression (of course this can be done in many ways, but this is just a simple alternative):first part
D-D-D-D-Gm-Gm-A4-A
D-D-D-D-Gm-Gm-A4-A
second part
D-E(!)-D-D-Gm-Gm-D(4)-D
D-E-D-D-Gm-Gm-D(4)-D

As I said this is just a very simple harmonization, the only somehow surprising thing being that major E chord on the second part, bar 2 and 10.

Really, nothing against you, but over the holidays I moved a step back and now I rather try to get into some books and videos ("How music works" with Howard Goodall, I can really recommend that).

So your help is definitely appreciated, no doubt. I just take it down for now and if I have further questions, I simply ask. There're no stupid questions, just stupid answers and the stupidity not to ask. ;)

Well don't hesitate to pay me a visit in my thread :D (My first "post-theory" homework), your knowledge would be greatly appreciated. :help:

Compy, forget your game melody.

and spend 5 min coming up with your own simple melody (in one key) and I'll send you $20 if you can't easily find chords to support it.
