Why is electronic dance music typically very simple?

Chords, scales, harmony, melody, etc.

I have several very large books on the topic here on my shelves and I just took one back to the library that dealt with soundtracks similarly. I know there are a ton more at the library. Someone must not be laughing out loud.
You can postulate and hypothesize all you want to, rummage through your esoteric volumes of important, trivial data, but at the end of the day, all the technical and scientific training and education in 'music as a science' does not mean that you will become a great musician (or dancer). ;)
There you go again with that "what I care about is the only thing worth caring about" attitude. You must at least catch a glimpse of a world outside your own once in a while.
adj wrote:I have great friends with high degrees of education -- two of them the foremost scientific skeptics in the world -- many of them can no more strum the rhythm to a Bob Didley riff than they can fly like a bird (now you're going to say "Of course they can, after they build an aeroplane!") :hihi:
Why would they know how to play a guitar? ...Some sort of innate ability? Even biology requires study.
adj wrote:One can theorise quite convincingly and sometimes accurately on the mechanics of art, imagination and creativity, but a certain 'aptititude' is still required for artistic endeavours,
When did anyone deny that? You're not making a whole lot of sense with this. Are you sure you're not jumping to conclusions?
adj wrote:Saying that, however, I've little doubt that someday a super computer will pinpoint the various genes and brain cell motor neuron facilitators and so forth that one might inherit which gives him/her better coordination or aptitiude towards a given skill. But at this point in time, mere knowledge of a discipline, although certainly helpful, does not a master make.
But it is an essential ingredient and you could even argue that it does. {"Master" being a relative term.} Even Picasso learned to paint "like Raphael" before he moved on to what he did later. Understanding is essential.

mmm... ok... Does that mean I must throw away my Jean-Paul Sartre books?

:hihi:
Do anything you like with them.

How clever... RT calls you on your 'questionable' logic, and that's the best response you can give?

Another useless thread eases it's way towards 20 pages...

You're real name wouldn't be RTaylor would it?

I mean, if not, you should look at things like post histories and read entire threads before you jump to conclusions, yeah?

The dude is a known dissembler and a troll. I was told to mute him but I have had too much fun here for too many years chatting with 'experts' who sound off about music and musical theory and cannot produce any bloody music.

For example:

Now how in the world does he arrive at this personally insulting conclusion -- after I make a simple-to-understand and widely acknowledged statement of fact?

Because he's dissembling -- making no sense. A wannabe 'musical expert' who can't make music.

My point is easy enough to understand.

But it's true, I truly don't give a f**k what a troll says -- especially one who likes to make trouble. But it's fun to see how far he wants to go. Even so though, when it turns into goobledygook, I get pretty bored.. ;)

If you want to mouth a lot of words on music as an expert, then give me something I can hear to back it up. Otherwise, you are really no more than a poser, Mr Taylor :tu:

Of course, I'm not saying that one is not entitled to speak like -- or even become -- an expert on music whilst not being a musician, but c'mon -- it's really a rather weak soapbox to preach from yeah?

So, give me your music or shut the f**k up...

See... now that response was actually a pretty entertaining read.

But if you're asking for my music, it's in the links in my sig. I'd certainly not say its first rate stuff; but then, I never said any of my theoretical knowlege has paid off (musically speaking).

No worries mate -- I haven't had the pleasure to yap with you before (I think, right?).

The fact that you make music and have the guts to post it grants you ready status with most in here :tu:

As well, none of this banter is all that much serious is it? I mean, is it?

By reading what you wrote.
adj wrote:So, give me your music or shut the f**k up...
I knew I should have left you muted. You accuse me of being a troll after you turn a thread to shit with insulting garbage posts? Same crap thread after thread. You're incapable of keeping up in an argument so you get scared and throw up the above comment. It's no wonder it's so tough to get a serious discussion going on ths board. There are idiots like yourself to provide instant bullshit.

Strangely enough... it didn't have to be useless.

...and then here of course, we have the inevitable ad hominem and personal insult that is, finally, the weapon of choice to the failed. :hihi:

Thread lock anyone?

;)

I don't know who's a troll and who isn't but from an outside perspective I'd bet dollars to donuts on adj being the problem child here.
