I posted this around page 20 or so and nobody seemed to notice.
Too bad youtube doesn't have any footage of the Brötzmann Octet doing Machine Gun…
More love-it-or-hate-it fun…
*edit*
Chuck beat be to Stream of Needles… but I beat him to the Ornette SNL clip, so we're even

i saw anthony braxton with the aacm band opening for don chery back in the day, and i have to say i never saw a better "solo" than that in my little life...i also saw braxton in nyc once, it was pretty boring tbh...rp314 wrote:For the many who enjoyed the "Last Exit" clip here's another delightful link. This is Anthony Braxton providing a bit of context by doing his version of John Coltrane's "Impressions" with Chick Corea on piano and friends.
Enjoy!

A. Your drummer's not as good as my drummer.
B. No, your a moron. Your drummer really sux
A. No yor the moron. My drummer is teh bestt. You suck
Of course, you could insert guitarist instead of drummer and you'd be looking at the comments under a Buckethead video...
Anyway, nice drumming, but not as good as Derek Roddy...

Just like there's always some asshat who feels a need to add "blah-blah-blah-bitch-moan-Dream-Theater-is-better-nyah-nyah-nyah" to any prog-metal vid.
'tis just the way the net works…
My pick for music vid of 2006
Nils Frykdahl is just goddamn awesome.

Yeah Chuck, Braxton can be inconsistent in his live performances. He taught at Mills College in Oaktown for many years (and got one of them MacArthur genius grants at one point, the lucky bastard) and would perform fairly often, sometimes with students and occasionally with a real band. Some of the shows were understandably mediocre but when he's surrounded with good musicians and takes one of his extended solos it can be amazing. The guy has studied so many of the greats, especially alto players like Johnny Hodges, Bird, Dolphy, Paul Desmond and Ornette that he could pretty much play like any or all of them but instead insisted on coming up with his own thing.Chuck E.
