I've just got the SCARBEE J-Fingered Bass Library in Giga format. On the CD however, there is only a series of .exe files which I cannot get to work on my Mac.
Note, I do NOT have an Intel Mac.
How do I install the samples in OS X? - Do I have to install it on a Windoze PC first and physically copy the samples? - That wouldn't be ideal though would it, surely there's an easier way??
I'm a bit annoyed now. Nowhere in the requirements did it specify a PC was necessary. All help is appreciated.

I think the reason they were in PC-only format (without noting so) is that Giga only runs on a PC - there is no Mac version.
Not having read his materials, I don't know if he supported Giga-compatible products as well - Mac or PC.

I'm not sure, but I don't think this works. I'm told .exe files are Windows only (unless anyone has any experience to the contrary??)precisionsound wrote:Use Stuffit Expander
I was going to convert the Giga file in EXS24 to something usable.
I assume I would be able to install the Giga file on a PC, then copy it (along with the samples) to my Mac. - Is there any disadvantage with doing this? I mean, everything should still work right? - And not in violation of any licence agreement?

Still, *try* opening them in RAR or Stuff It.
If it's a self-extracting archive of any known kind they will unpack it and just ignore the executable part.

I don't have either installed at the moment, and would rather not install anything without knowing it will work.bleebsen wrote:Still, *try* opening them in RAR or Stuff It.
Doesn't anyone have any experience with using SCARBEE samples on a Mac ?

Precisionsound is selling downloadable sounds to both MAC and PC users in .exe format and the MAC users use Stuffit to extract .exe files successfully.
Download it, install it and use it.
Its old mythology still circulating that .exe files are PC only. Maybe 5 years ago, but not now.

I wouldn't worry about Stuffit or WinRar. Both are better then anything the OS comes with, and are well proven. Plus, when stuffing things yourself, they will get much better compression.

Sorted. I installed the free Stuffit Expander, and this successfully extracted the .exe files on my PowerMac.
Furthermore, the .gig files converted fine in EXS24, with the key switching and mod wheel stuff works fine.
Thanks everyone for your help.
