i know what you mean, 2 notes are already harmony
let's see how i figure out:
C-E is C
E-G is C (4 et 5 harmonic of C)
E-G-B is Emaj (E-B,fifth, stronger interval)
C-E-G-B is Cmaj7 ;2 fifth, C-G and E-B but C-E (maj third) is stronger than E-G (min third)
but i can't consider indian music to run harmonic because of the non-evidence (lack) of harmonization and harmonized material (this is not criticism);
even if an ensemble (vocal or instruments) play all together a melody, they always sing or play the same note (whatever the octaves)
instead, polynesian music is harmonic, pygmees and zulu's too (see, i don't refer to western traditions here)
