great improvements on ls :)

FR : a random function to place the slices in a irregular form (no grid function)

FR : a general random functions for all the parameters (automatable)

FR : vst parameters slot for automations in addition to notes and CC (this makes LS far more usable in modular live enviroments with their own midi/osc learn mechanics like Usine, Bidule and the likes)

thanx

Here is what i notice so far:

Re: Live 5.2

1] Using EnergyXT (tried both version 1.4 and version2 Core 1 latest beta)
within LS, I save an fxb file with "save audio data" option
selected.
2] Now i open LS within Live 5.2 and load the fxb file.
Although i can hear all the tracks within the arrangement,
only the 1st track displays the wave forms.
All other tracks appear with no wave forms
(i have anywhere from three to five tracks in the arrangement).

I tried this in reverse where i saved the .fxb file within Live,
loaded LS within EXT, and opened the .fxb file.
It works fine. All waveforms appear on all tracks.

A warning for those using XT2, "CNTRL/Z" deletes LS as opposed to
performing an "undo" function. This happens even with LS's GUI selected
in both a modular environment and within a sequencer track.
selected. Obviously an XT2 issue.

As a feature request, can "Save audio data in songs and banks" be saved with the settings when enabled?

"- space bar now controls playback "
For me, it slows down playback as opposed to stop/play.
Is this what it is supposed to be doing???

A bit OT:

Ohm, do you realize you are literally maybe one or two steps away from becoming an alternative to Ableton Live's "session view"?? Good job and thank you for this update :)

The only features needed to be a full alternative to Live's session view is
1] The ability to record an "infinite" amount of time as opposed to just 64 bars (like a standard host)
2] Have multiple inputs (for recording drum VSTs w/ multiple outs etc.)
3] No set outputs. Each track (or arrangement???) can be assigned to it's own exclusive output. So if you have 8, 16, 24 tracks etc, you can assign each to their own output.
I'm better than you. Deal with it.

[LS v1.45 beta 1]

GilJ's Brs

Br/1 - confirmed
BR/4 - confirmed here (see screenshot - LS-waveforms) -I am not to sure that the new waveform is a more accurate representation

==========================================
New Bug Reports
BR 031 - no "hand" pointer for moving event
- "hand" pointer does not appear when you hover over an event before moving it

BR 032 - cancelling the [Stretch] button- [Stretch] does not unhighlight when you [Clear] the track

BR 033 - Font colour for recordings after saving- The name of a recording does not change to black when you [Save] it, you have to close the LS GUI and re-open it.

BR 034 - Changing waveform display when adjusting [Delay]- When you change the [Delay] parameter, the waveform changes length significantly

= = = = = =
I did some other testing and these old BRs (all reported here previously) are still present:
  • BR 030 - Synchronized recording - not at bar start
  • BR 029 - changing from [sel loop] no longer works
  • BR 028 - Highlighting arrangements when [Played]
  • BR 027 - RMB on Note values on Settings page
  • BR 026 - In some cases, the triggered Arrangement was not outlined in red
  • BR 025 - [Play] plays selected Arrangement after Bank change
  • BR 024 - MIDI trigger highlights 3 Arrangements
  • BR 023 - Short folder names corrupts path display in Browser
  • BR 013 - inserted Event takes parameter values of preceding Event)

. .. And a couple of Questions:

Q 005 - Can someone clarify what the [Stretch] control is doing?
- in specific terms, not general ones.

- with Loop tempo of 116 and host tempo of 116, before [Stretch] the AHD is 1ms, 100%, 3%; after [Stretch] it is 0ms, 80%, 17%
- with Loop tempo of 116 and host tempo of 145, before [Stretch] the AHD is 1ms, 100%, 3%; after [Stretch] it is 0ms, 80%, 13%
- and at host tempo of 174, the decay of the stretched event is 11%
- it seems that the Attack is always set to 0, the Hold level to 805, and the Decay varies depending on the tempo difference

- And when I played the stretched events and recorded them in the host, with the host tempo was 116 then 145 (25% higher) the recorded events were 25% closer 9as expected) but the event durations were only 6% shorter
- is this expected?

Q 004 - How do I use [Crop]?
- I must be being stupid, but cannot see how to get the crop to work.
- Can someone give me some guidelines?

. . . and, finally, an FR

FR 024 - Background colour for Slicer and Arrangement buttons
- Can you put a colour in the Slicer and Arrangement slot backgrounds (the white is too bright for me.
- Please see the "current" and "suggested" GUIs in the screenshots:

Glad to see that I'm not the only one

Ohm, I thought that the cropping feature would have been implemented with 2 'markers', a little bit like this:
- Two permanent 'markers' would have been defined in the slicer: '[' to set the start of the loop and ']' to set its end
- When we click on 'Lock to loop', it only locks the part of the loop which is between the start and end markers

Cheers,
GilJ.

Well, that's another way of doing it. I figured: since I already have markers defining the beginning of the first slice and the end of the last, the logical step would be to have the crop function remove everything outside the area defined by these two markers.
Notice how the areas outside the markers are whitened out when moving them? I was hoping this would point in the right direction. Perhaps I'll make the markers more visible if the crop button is pressed without moving the markers - to make the feature "self documenting".
I'm not too keen on having a non destructive crop feature, like you describe. I think it's more important to discard the unused audio data to conserve memory.

certainly. will probably have to make the whole gui a bit darker (so you can see the "grid" in the arranger) but that's ok. I agree the white is a bit too bright.

Thanks Ohm, now I see how it works

I think it would be interesting, as I have some difficulties to grab these 2 markers with my mouse (a graphic bug or the markers are too 'thin'?)

I'm 100% OK with this :)

I have some questions / B.R about the crop feature:

[LiveSlicev145b1]

BR5/ Clicking on the crop button several times (without moving the markers), makes the waveform (and the loop) in the slicer move slightly at each click?

BR6/ Crop and 'Lock to loop'
1- 'Lock to loop' a loop to a track (the 'Lock to loop' must remain activated)
2- Move the end marker of the loop in the slicer
3- Click on crop
:?: 'Lock to loop' is activated, but the cropped loop is not being locked to the track: I must desactivate and reactivate the 'Lock to loop' button

Cheers,
GilJ.

I forgot about the graphics bug making the markers hard to grab - it's been fixed for a couple of days here - works much better now.

thanks for BR5, looks.... interesting...

fixed BR6

BR 035 - Saving 24-bit stereo ACIDized files.

LS can load and play 24-bit 48KHz stereo loop files OK, but if you slice the loop and [Save] it, as an ACIDIized ifle , the loop is corrupted.

Here is a "before" and "after" comparision

---------------------
- just checked - it happens in v1.44 too
- seems to work Ok for 24-bit 48KHz mono loops

:?: :?:
Nope, I can't see any markers here - I've tried several Preset colour schemes

HOw about implementing something like:

with the marker tags suitably background-coloured

Found in LS 145b1, but might also be present in earlier versions

BR 038 - Highlighting triggered Arangements
When you trigger an arrangement in Bank 2 or 3 it is not highlighted in red in the Arrangements section (but the Play button is enabled).

BR 039 - Banks redisplay problem
I was working on the 25th Arrangement (the first on in Bank 2, triggered by note C3).
When I closed the LS GUI and re-opened it, the correct arrangement was displayed, but the [Bank 1] tab was highlighted

When I clicked [Bank 1] the arrangements for C1 to B2 were displayed
When I clicked [Bank 2] the arrangements for C3 to B4 were displayed

So it is a redisplay problem when the current arrangement is in bank 2 or 3.

BR 040 - Not triggering the current Arrangement
If you have an arrangement (say, C1) selected, then select [trigger with host], and select another arrangement (say D1), then start your host's transport, arrangement C1 plays, but it should be D1.

To get D1 to play (while the host transport was running), I had to select C1, then D1

BR 041 - Multiple arrangements playing
With [trigger with host] selected and the host transport running, sometimes when I selected a new arrangement to play, the current arrangement did not stop playing, so I had both playing even though {triiger with host] was selected

BR 042 - Increasing number of visible tracks
I increased the number of visible tracks from 2 to 3; on returning to the main GUI it was not displayed correctly.

-> Confirmed: used to have this problem with older versions of LiveSlice too... I decided some months ago to format my computer and go for a fresh install, with only one version of LiveSlice installed -I.E. v1.44- etc. and the problem seemed to have disappeared! Now that I have v1.45b1 installed, next to v1.44, I also have the problem, but with v1.45b1 only :o )
