It's difficult to tell, since the response of synthesizer/digital piano pedals are SO unrealistic. There's so much give, whereas with a real piano, you can feel the dampers moving when you press the pedal. But I know TruePianos does have some sort of resonance thing that makes it sound like a real damper pedal.

Hi,

Pedals from the 'MIDI approach' generally only send an on/off signal, not e.g a 0..127 value. From a practical point of view this brings limitations when simulating pedal behavior. There are other solutions but 99% of the people with MIDI controllers don't have such equipment.

An example of a pedal that would allow better 'pedal' simulation (unless I'm wrong) can be found here: http://www.bananas.com/productdetail.as ... tain-Pedal

This however would probably require rerouting the sustain/soft pedal signals to another CC and make a VSTi react to that in the right way.

Currently the main limitation with current pedals is actual simulating 'pedal' sounds in software. When these are added to a virtual piano instrument the software can only 'randomize' the pedal sound or stick with one pedal sound.

To me pedal sounds in virtual pianos are just toys personally and in currently available VSTi's the result sounds fake and utterly unrealistic to me.

If I'm not mistaken, my Privia 3-pedal unit, as well as the pedal unit in many home digital pianos from Yamaha and Roland, actually transmit the whole 0-127 range.

Hi,

Correct.. I just learned something :) As long as it's set to 'half-damper' mode it should do exactly what you describe.

Anyhow, half-damper mode is not supported for now. But.. I do want a new set of pedals now, if only to experiment.

Thanx. Can't wait to try the demo :D Will there be a demo version when the VST is released?

Hi,

For details just check http://www.truepianos.com from time to time. I updated it last night with a simple flash movie using one of the piano modules for background music.. That's all I can share for now.

Just checked www.truepianos.com & listened to the music ... Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh WOW!
I can't wait anymore!
Wish I could have been a beta tester just to have the opportunity to play this piano.
I hope I'll contribute with my own demo as soon as I can check it.

Thx RdW, thx George Yohng ...

I think that, just for such a low price and not having to deal with a big sample library is worth it, if the price is right. The sound is close enough to a real piano for me to work with! The best piano samples I have are on my TR, and while they are really good sounding samples, this thing sounds quite a bit better. looking forward to trying it out!

That flash animation is great! And it's really true: I've noticed in any other piano VSTi, I'm always adjusting to the piano samples. Trying to play a certain way to make them sound good, etc. With TruePianos, there's the controls and options that make it possible so that the piano is adjusting to YOU, not the other way around.

WOW, this sounds beautiful. Heck, I'm a big fan of the freeware 4Front Piano Module, now this TruePianos one seems like it will completely blow it away in every possible way. :D

Hmmmm, wonder if a TrueBass is in the works? :)

Just thinking about a demo contest during the launch of Truepianos.
The winners could be awarded with a copy of TP.

Interesting?

The octave around C5 still sounds somewhat phony. The rest sounds excellent though. Can't wait to learn the price.
