Live music in Dakar clubs is probably the best nights out you can have anywhere. Absolutely awesome! (they start late and last until morning, so no good if you have work the next day...)
Thanks for this!
in african clubs, you will dance until you drop, and i mean it! all night long, and the rythms so nice
i also want to add that these musicians are VERY good and have no formal training, what i mean is that they play straight from the heart without reading notes
often many musicians are from the GRIOT caste, which means if your father was a musician, you will also be most problably.. although today society have changed a bit and everyone can play , of course..
i have been living in senegal, and everywhere you will hear music and see dancing, its as natural as cooking food or washing clothes , and many times you will do both at the same time
the small children will maybe play some football, but as well play some drums, its just antoher kind of "game", where everyone participates..
i know, as i was playing djembe, and a 5-year old picked it up and played the **** out of me , LOL
so, in africa , you don't think so much about music, you JUST DO IT
dont sit and discuss "whats the best drum?" like here is "whats the best synth?", you JUST DO IT
abaraka baake (means 'thank you very much' in mandinka)
