The upcoming 03|2007 Beat issue should also have the Podium Beat 1.74 version on the CD, accompanied by the third workshop in the magazine. The Beat version is a full version, except for a Beat logo shown in the title, and the zReverb plugin is not included.Vibro Larynx wrote:B.t.w. readers of the german magazine Beat are entitled for a free version (Beat-Version) of Podium (it's version 1.74. AFAIK, and updates are only available by purchasing a licence). The mag has a supplemental workshop of the usage of Podium.
It's available in the january issue. And the mag is 3.90€
*edit*: And to answer questions beforehand: Is the Beat-Version a full version: YES IT IS!

I kinda aggree with waveriderarts: Noise bursts would be less 'disturbing' than drop outs.Zynewave wrote:What kind of demo restrictions do you recommend then? I honestly think that a short fade in/out is not that annoying. Last time I tried the Tracktion demo it had regular noise bursts. The eXT1 demo as I recall only allowed saving projects once, and you'd need the full version to open the file. What kind of limitation does the Ableton Live demo have?waveriderarts wrote:well, that means I can create and save, but in no way i can try it for real (some hours!!) with dropouts every 30 sec. That is torture to me!Zynewave wrote:· Audio output will drop temporarily every 30 seconds. What are the demo limitations????I cannot test a vst like that for more than 3 minutes, and an host doing that is not even worth an install.... what a bizare idea, I do not remember this limitation when trying Live or eXT (both I purchased...)

A great way of promotion by the way!Zynewave wrote:The upcoming 03|2007 Beat issue should also have the Podium Beat 1.74 version on the CD, accompanied by the third workshop in the magazine. I'll get me a copy, to get a grasp of Podium. Maybe I will become a happy customer too?

Ok maybe that is just a matter of preferences... I just can't evaluate audio software with a noise burst or silence every 30 sec. it is freaking me out!Zynewave wrote: What kind of demo restrictions do you recommend then? -sonic charge utonic has a voice coming in once in awhile, leaving you with enough peace so you can enjoy yourself some with the thing, mind you it is only a vst you can test it fast, not a good solution for a host in my opinion
-ext was perfect to try: I could work on something, render it, and save the project file. So after a while I could see by the number and quality of audio files (like audio demos) that the soft was working for me as a creation tool. That worked for me. I do not remerber about Ableton (got it at live4 after demoing ver3) but I do not remeber silence or noise bursts.
I am sure your product is quality, and being reasonably priced, I might consider it but that I cannot realisticaly consider testing it ...but that is my own limitation...
...BTW for exemple I got some FL studio demo I am evaluating, I consider a purchase.. and I do not remember being annoyed by silence or noise either.

I preffer a quick fade in and out to a noise burst - I've always hated a blast of white noise in my ears (especially if I'm on headphones!).
Make you could raise the 30 secs to 45 seconds, or 1 minute at least? I kinda like the idea of not being able to save a project, but still being able to render it (ala FL Studio).

One thing again which nobody mentions here is: THERE IS NO COPY PROTECTION! No stupid dongle, no stupid challenge response! I can install as often as I like (on my own DAW of course). I get regular (every 2 - 3 weeks) updates which not only have bugfixes, but more often are huge additions to Podium such as the newly introduced fades. And there is more to come. Frits develops more Zynewave plugins, such as a master plugin and the zGrid, which was mentioned here before. The really cool thing about this is, that the plugins are integrated in Podiums track inspector. The implemented reverb sounds great, so does the EQ. With more features on the plan like timestretching, the feature list grows and grows..
If you try the demo, feel free to post on Zynewave.com and the users there will help you if any problems arise.

Fade in and out is definitely better than noise-bursts
. However, I think it would be better if you could work normally with it, just as you would with normal licensed version, but you can't save or load the project, both or either of these. That gives you a chance to really evaluate the software.
Under assumption Podium is a bit hard to learn, making it do "something" annoying while evaluating, doesn't sound very benefitial for the promotion of it. Maybe that's one of the reasons it's not so popular, even though it's the best coded DAW out there IMO. Who knows... People don't like annoying things
, especially musicians. It kills inspiration. To evaluate the software properly, you have to make at least one project/song which can take anything from an hour to a few hours and with Podium fades every 30sec... it's not inspiring at all. So I asume, most people try it for a few minutes or half an hour, which is not enough to learn Podium and see how good of a DAW it really is
. Just MO... It actually happens to me every time I try the demo
. Can't cope with fades every 30sec. Sometimes you cannot tell is it a plugin that does it or what and that gives the wrong impression about Podium.
However, what it achieves is: when you try Podium demo enough times to get you finally hooked, you buy it
. It just depends on your patience. Sooner or later you get hooked. So far, I tried the demo 3 times and every time I tried it, and slowly but surely it seemed better and better... some day, I'm almost certain I'll finally buy it.
Cheers!

In all honesty, I don't think Podium is hard to learn or use. I think the manual is a little lacking, which makes it hard to get started.
I say that as someone who loves Podium and recently purchased it.

The msi installer thingie opens up a text editor and that's about it. I'm running XT. I tried right-click 'install' and got the same thing.
Just looking at the tutorials makes me a bit dizzy, though, I must admit. If there's a demo project included (assuming I ever get it to install) that'll be a help in figuring it out.

That depends how you have it set up. If that project only uses synths and effects from say Linplug, then only your Linplug folder gets scanned, not your whole vstplugin folder.marce wrote:It scans your plugins each time you start a project?

I downloaded and played a bit with it. Appear very powerfull, but i guess you need some time to figure things.
I remember when played with Tracktion and Reaper, i put a VSTi and make sound with them in seconds. This one appear a little more complex. Things i expect to happen, dont, by example double clicking on the "SFZ" field in the track dont open the plugin, and that things.
Since it dont have an score editor, im lazy to learn it. Maybe in some time.

You first need to activate monitoring - press the big power button, then you will see an "e" icon on your plugin track. Clicking this button or simply pressing "e" on your keyboard while focus is on the track, opens the VST editor.marce wrote:I downloaded and played a bit with it. Yep...exactly my experience last week when I tried the demo for the first time. It got trashed soon after first try...I'm prepared to read the manual, or deal with audio restrictions if it's intuitive, but stuff like this:To evaluate the software properly, you have to make at least one project/song which can take anything from an hour to a few hours and with Podium fades every 30sec... it's not inspiring at all. So I asume, most people try it for a few minutes or half an hour
...isn't intuitive, especially when that "e" is missing until you do something else obscure, as in pressing the power button, which I discovered in the manual but not before it mislead me by assuming the e was already present, from memory. You first need to activate monitoring - press the big power button, then you will see an "e" icon on your plugin track. Clicking this button or simply pressing "e" on your keyboard while focus is on the track, opens the VST editor.
