But if your name is Robert Rich, it's ok.shamann wrote: This raises an important concern. No matter what, no f**king arpeggios! Ambient in general is probably a lost cause on this, but if you are going for dark, don't get all Ian Boddy on us, ffs.

When writing, I've always been one to get stuck at 8 bars of music ... until now.menthal wrote:http://hypermammut.sourceforge.net/paulstretch/

A dozen 8-bar samples, some stretching, burn CDs -- I'm an ambient artist with an album.
The hardest part will be picking titles for all the albums I'll be releasing. Let's see...The Inner Ambient, Stretching To You,...

The core of all dronescape/experimental/ambient can be summed up in one word: Experimentation. Play with that audio editor and chop shit up. Good soundscapes ultimately come from your wav editor-- not your sequencer. Cut/Paste/Reverse until you're just sick of it. Maybe add very light effects to the result....then put that back on the chopping block.
......then add reverb.
......then add reverb.

try Csound/Cecilia. Really fantastic for ambient stuff, imho.

oh, and if anyone is interested, i've posted my ambient piece that i did for my master's thesis composition. download it from here:
http://www.jcf.org/forum/viewtopic.php? ... 13&forum=2
it's kind of a big download (17.8 mb). 12 minute track. Included in the zip is my thesis write up in case you're interested in the subject matter-- Mythology as Musical Structure

No, no chorus. Unless you're David Tibet and go "antichrist antichrist" all the time.
No, just very long delays and reverbs. Think "cavernous" and "oceanic".

Never heard of this guy (and you ask, how is this possible), so I found his web site and have listened to some of the mp3s from different albums. I've certainly heard worse, liked some pieces more than others, and wondered -- on the basis of the remark above -- if he's considered the Yanni or John Tesh of the UK.shamann wrote:Ambient in general is probably a lost cause on this, but if you are going for dark, don't get all Ian Boddy on us, ffs.
