lordvader48,

What in the world is up with you ? Of course we know that things like Kontakt and Independence don't "record" the audio they play back. But what exactly is your point to gain by bitching about these things ? Completely silly, and a waste of time. Again - for you to do reviews on things, and bitch about the things you do, seems really ridiculous.

Do you like _anything_ ? I haven't seen a single review where you didn't "tear it apart". Kontakt, although it doesn't "sample" ( oh no !! ), is a great piece of software, and believe me, I don't lose sleep over the fact that it doesn't actually record audio. You know what ? I've actually found a way to do that with my computer, and without using Kontakt ! Imagine that.

Did you know that when you hear the words "Xerox" or "Google" used as verbs, most people don't get upset about it. We know what they mean. The fact that people refer to Kontakt as a "sampler", really doesn't make much difference. I wouldn't go to the lengths to think that there is a conspiracy of marketing departments trying to figure out ways of "lying" to us in their product descriptions. From the reviews I've seen of yours, you seem really bent out of shape for these companies refering to their software as "samplers". Who cares ? Does something this insignificant _really_ rattle you ? Get a life, please.

Why don't you give us all a break, and start posting something "positive" about these, in all reality, truly remarkable instruments. The things you complain about, are just plain silly.

John.

I think that your assessment of "lordvader's" reviews is pretty much dead wrong. His point seems to be that the world is getting pretty tired of "sound bank players" - as he calls them. Soundbank players do suck, and I think a lot of us figured that NI, Steinberg would get around to adding some creative features to those products. It never happened, and a lot of us are frustrated by that.

It's time for developers to aspire to much more, the soundbank thing really is getting old. I have to give the guy kudos, he's just right. Those "samplers" are a rip-off. Fortunately, 112db and Image-Line are riding in to the rescue for people that actually want to do something somewhat creative/original.

One more thing :D

I just noticed that the "Good Lord" also did a DirectWave (IL) review that was just glowingly positive, w/a 10 out of 10 rating. I'm sorry, but your rant just doesn't make sense. Vader seems know what he's talking about and is just making his case. FYI, I guess I agree with him. Softsamplers that cat't sample are too limited. I've learened the same thing myself the hard way.

I just had a look at a few of lordvader's reviews. They were actually entertaining to read, which can't always be said for a lot of the reviews really. And the lord is clearly has specific and stated criteria as he is writing.

Thanks for the tip, been so long since I've read any of the reviews here, I would have missed them.

And he's right, if Kontakt won't ever record audio in, it should at the very least have sample editing.

No EDITING? That's rough. I use Emulator X (hehe)...

thankfully kontakt has an 'external editor' button. so when i need to edit a sample, i just click on that and soundforge loads right up. when im done, i save the sample and go back to kontakt, which updates the sample.
