lotta cool stuff but the new concept slicer that ModuLr is working on promises to be much more interesting.
:-o can't wait....

This thread is useless without a link.

not doubting modulr skills, but unless the OP has some inside info he's just being noisy.
there is nothing in that thread besides people trying to get him to code their own dream slicer...

Post

Why are people so obsessed with slicers? I guess because I compose Ambient music, they don't really appeal very much to me, but aren't there several very capable ones out there already? Is there really that much room for innovation left? What am I missing here?

Post

Well, FWIW, I haven't found a single slicer that satisfies me. They're always too small, to fiddly, too geeky, etc. I want something just like ReCycle (nice, big, clear interface, intuitive tools) or Dr Rex, but as a VST instrument. I'm not exactly Mr Drum'n'Bass, but I like the flexibility of slicers, and being able to quicly swap out loops in sync with the host - without having to muck about with importing audio - is my main motivation.

But for me, I'm still waiting for "Mr Slice-Right".

Post

There's definitely room for innovation in slicers, still. I'll have to peek into what Mod's up to.

Sounds more like you are looking for "simplification, instead of "innovation".

Oh, I ain't looking for innovation; you're dead right there. I may not qualify as a slicer-nut.

Have you tried IL's Edison, yet? Might do what you want. It's fairly intuitive to use and the screen is resizable. Might qualify as fiddly in spots though.

Post

No, I haven't; I thought that was FL Studio only. I'll check it out presently, thanks! :D

Hmm. Edison doesn't seem to load as a VSTi in Cubase, only as an audio insert plugin. I can't get it to playback with a project... :?

It's not an instrument, it registers as an effect. I use modular hosts, where the distinction is moot. Might not work effectively in a host like Cubase. But it's meant to be kind of like ReCycle as a VST (in that ReCycle isn't an instrument either).

Yeah, it looks great. Love the graphics and animations! Very clear and helpful. It doesn't appear to work properly in Cubase, unfortunately. Tell me: can you preview individual slices by clicking on them? I couldn't get it to do that.
