Another drag n' drop finding:
You can DnD from Image-Line Edison to WaveLab, but strangely you can't go in the other direction. This might be useful for someone trying to get Edison regions or selections into WaveLab for some reason, like if they're trying to do sample dump from WaveLab w/stuff from Edison.

Check out the emux2 video and pay close attention to "synth swipe"..Its saved me tons of time and work...jebus.
i wonder if the new version can be resized, that's a big issue for me...

U mean u don't like half your screen taken over by emux2 when working in your DAW? lol..Jebus, emu needs to catch up to the modern world of user friendly well designed GUIs and user customization
But honestly, I don't think I'm going to upgrade to "platinum" because frankly I don't need the acapella extractor feature or a 20gb library I know nothing about.

actually, i'd like to be able to see the miniscule controls better...they pack so many things on one screen, it's tough to make stuff out sometimes! and it would be nice to resize the sample edit window...customizing is good thought ... i also wish the X2 filter was available as a seperate VST effect....dentaldetox wrote: U mean u don't like half your screen taken over by emux2 when working in your DAW? lol..Jebus, emu needs to catch up to the modern world of user friendly well designed GUIs and user customization![]()

yeah, i'm not going to upgrade now as i don't plan on doing multicore/64bit for a long time... the extract thing would be cool for remix work i suppose (someone should tell that guy George sings Taxman, not John

HALion 3:
Drag-And-Drop from desktop & Explorer to HALion works, as does d/d FROM WaveLab. No other wave editor works as d/d source (so far).
Drag-And-Drop from HALion to anything else does not work (black hole?).
OLE Drag-And-Drop - none.

emulator x2 is great, but not for os x.
i totally agree with the initial post, its more about making us fools that load, load , load and buy buy buy instead of SAMPLE SAMPLE SAMPLE...like with the IPOD that has NO INPUT. Im currently searching a way for fast sampling and sample mapping, and there im lost in that sea of good programs and demos like audio hijack, fission, sound sampler, one shot sampler (au??), auto sampler, audio finder, keymap...that can all do astonishing things but lack of a support of THE WHOLE SIMPLE SAMPLING PROCESS IN COMPLETE. they are all solutions for certain parts of the process. should i try live's sampler or the new one of digidesign ...and then wont be able to use it in logic......i think mac users had bad luck for a long time with these things, but i see more and more people being aware of these things and things will come up....but still every day of waiting is weird when you once already had it perfect with your old emu hardware...which makes it a nightmare to organize a library though....thats why the computer solution is needed

whoops - one more HALion detail
I looked at the output from HALion when saving a prog w/a dragged/dropped sample. The ENTIRE FILE is referenced in HALion, not just the selection/region brought from WaveLab. Not what you would expect. Might be okay, but.. hard to know.

You're absolutely right - a big attraction of a computer-based sampling system is ease of sample management. But without sampling, sample editing, resampling, or usable drag-and-drop, I'm starting to think that a hardware solution is better for me in the short run.
Thank you - you've just summarized my own thoughts about this perfectly. This is what all of the fuss is about - the soft non-samplers are simply incomplete and this renders them unuseful to many of us. I wish I had never sold my E6400 and I'm considering getting another one until the non-sampler vendors get their collective act together..but still every day of waiting is weird when you once already had it perfect with your old emu hardware...which makes it a nightmare to organize a library though....thats why the computer solution is needed

Doesn't look like it to me, but I wish it were. Anyone else have a different conclusion?isn't the new version osx compatable?

making for an "intuitive" work space.
That is right. We certainly do see Drag and Drop to be an important feature. At the NAMM show this past weekend we were showing our new interface and the response was overwhelmingly positive.
There is a flash demo of it here: http://garritan.com/dragdrop.html
This interface allows the user to select, load, manipulate and mix software instruments in one single graphical environment. It is our goal for music technology not to get in the way of the music creating process and think that this approach with further that goal.
A team of programmers led by David Viens from Plogue Art & Technologies developed the custom sample engine for us. Plogue Art & Technologies is known for developing Bidule, the finest VST host available.
I'll be posting more about this new sampler.

actually, they just have beta drivers for some of their audio interfaces...it's on their site, don't have a link...sorry for the confusion...lordvader48 wrote:Chuck E. Jesus said:

I've worked off an on as a "sound designer" for about 20 years.
A sound designer is a person who creatively manipulates sound FX and atmospheres for films, essentially "framing" the overall sound atmosphere to fit into a director's narrative vision.
Or is it ?
Over the last 2 or 3 years, a "sound designer" is apparently anyone who tweaks a parameter on a synth preset.
So things change ......
Not at all. Sound designers have been employed in the Muisc Tech industry for over 20 years. Yamaha has had full time sound designers since the days of the DX7 etc.
The problem is that movie people think it only refers to people who make explosion sounds for a living.

Here's another one that's totally lame

Sorry, but vader is right - this sux.

Thanks to everyone who's looked at this drag-and-drop issue.
Does anyone out there have "Mach 5"? MOTU claims Mach 5 has a general VST host drag-and-drop. Can anyone verify this is true?
