Frater Perdurabo....so Aleister, you've returned from the dead to post on KVR? Surely you did indeed intend to endure....

I love this utility, but I have to save what I'm doing to a file to use it, whereas I was hoping to work within a "live" environment for some stuff -- ideally with a VST effect. Maybe even something in Reaktor. Any suggestions. :)

Melodyne may do this on the fly; I'm not sure though. Just remember, time stretching can be a tall order on your CPU, especially if you can find a way to do it 'live'...even on a relatively fast system.

Yeah, probably closer to the truth than you realize.

A shameless little plug for my new forum is in order I guess. I just got some new server space yesterday, threw up a forum I'm still working on, but it's up and running and is available for any and all members here to join, although I don't mind saying it's not a f**king tarnce forum, so if you aren't into the dark and heavy stuff, you need not apply..

Dude, I hope that you're joking!

If I had a dollar for every Thelemic occultist I've ever met online or abroad who carried a Thoth deck in their pocket, had Liber Al on their nightstand, and named their first-born daughter Rose in an attempt to convince themselves and everyone else that they are the reincarnation of Crowley.......then I'd never have to work ever again

the answer is in modular synths forum.
i asked for something similar and sickle delivered.

Good thread... glad some users mentioned their techniques instead of slamming on Lustmord.

1: Emotion
Sickle pointed out the emotions of the artist is the starting point. An artist needs to be able to "feel" the pain, violence and beauty which make up dark and powerful soundscapes.

2: Granulation
With that said I use Reaktor and Metasynth quite a bit... mostly their granular features. Granular is a technique that really resonates with me prodution and sound wise. I also like to pitch shift my sound by downgrading them... i.e. take a 44kHz sound and then re-save it at 11kHz... quick slowing of the track.

3: Samples
I'm also a fan of warping my own samples (always in Metasynth, I don't really fool around with audio editors) and then importing them into a sample munger. I use Wusik and it's wave sequencing quite a bit. At some point I'd like to try Absynth, load up a sample and then control LFO's and such in realtime with it's envelopes. Also, using everyday sounds can sound just as good as a high class synth when mangled.

4: Noise
I also like to throw in a bit of my Circuit Bent instruments from time to time or some good noise and bustered up sounds.

5: Flow
I like my "dark" tracks to have momentum, beats and a healthy dose of noise. Anyone who's heard Inades "Aldeberan" knows what I'm talking about. So while they don't use arpegiators there are still beats, or at least thuds.
Some tracks I like to just meander... an intermixing of sound... and others I like to build into powerful conclusions.

6: Modularity
Use an environment like Reaktor, eXT, Bidule, Mulch, Usine, etc... so that you can really layer on the effects between sound sources and also modulate (if you use MIDI Learn) parameters such as filter sweeps in real-time.
Add in a little experimental/musique concrete and you've got some interesting stuff indeed!!

Well, you can relax then, because that's not what I was alluding to.

That could seriously be improved upon, me thinks, but I'm glad you like it.

yeah it probably could be improved upon, but the idea was sound and you have implemented the idea and more(filters for eg) for now it does enough for me to find it useful enough to drop it straight into my set for next wednesday :o

again thanks muchness, not least for havin it done so quick :)

How old might this thread be? The forum search isn't working at all, and I couldn't get any result in general search using "reaktor genii/geniuses." Sounds quite mysterious. :)
