I want to record my improvisations with the RPS (realtime pattern sequences) along with a preset pattern in my Roland MC-307 groovebox.
The manual talks about playing RPS patterns along with rhythm presets, but no mention of recording.
When I do the procedure to setup realtime recording, and hit play to begin recording, the RPS patterns I have on the 16-key keyboard are replaced with an instrument patch.
I'm hoping there's a way to record RPS plus preset pattern into the internal sequencer, since RPS is a quick way to sound like the hippest pro drummer.
I realize I can output the audio and midi to an external recorder, like Cubase, but it's funkier just to do it on the grooveBox.
Thanks for any help,

As you mentioned in your question, the MC-307 doesn't have the capacity to record your RPS performance. I think it would need a lot more than 16MB for that purpose.

Using your soft sequencer can be a good option for MIDI recording of the whole thing if you would like to fine tune your performance later on.

Keep in mind that in order to control RPS through an external MIDI sequencer (Channel 15 by default) you must disable the REMOTE setting. This also affects the arpeggio in the same way (channel 16 by default)
Follow these steps: SYSTEM -> SYS -> MIDI -> REMOTE KEYBOARD -> OFF - This tells the MC-307 to receive RPS triggering commands on channel 15 only, not from a hooked up MIDI keyboard. Connect you MIDI keyboard to your external sequencer and route the channel output to the MIDI port the MC-307 is connected to (channel 15) and record your playing. after playing around, edit your performance and make adjustments.

RPS trigger quantize: This is a crucial setting to the precision of your RPS playing. Go to SYSTEM->SYS->SEQ->PRM3. You have the following options FOR RPS TRIGGER QTZ: REAL, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, MES
Using REAL means the loop is triggered when you press. This is the most precise option - the MC-307 doesn't help you and you can do whatever you want. The other options mean the MC-307 triggers the loop at the beginning of the next 1/16th 1/8th, etc'. You should press the button a little bit before time for best results.

I think RPS is amazing and one of the best features in the Roland GrooveBox, making it sort of a MIDI loop sampler. The MC-307 would be my favorite sampler if it could host my own samples.
