i have synths that load .tun files, but the only sampler i could find so far is tobybear's helios, which is okay, but i'm looking for other options, hopefully free. any out there?

Wusikstation. Not free though. I think the 50$ group buy just ended.

This is only for .SF2 but it has micro tuning.

What are the free ones that load .tun files?

Btw, there's a tedious way to retune an .sfz file, but you'd have to have a <region> tag for every note.

Oblivion might be intersting to you. This is a soundfont player with focus on microtuning. You can even switch between up do 12 microtunings while playing. However, it costs 40€. Have a look at http://www.omringen.com

There's a free version of Oblivion:

Or you can roll your own with this synthedit module:

Btw, check out this beta software if you're into lattices:
http://tonalsoft.com/

It only works with newer 3d video cards though.

Looks like he wants at least 19 Euro donation for the module.

Donate And Get The TUN File Intonation C++ Modules

For a recommended donation of 100 Euro (donation not less than 19 Euro) receive both the TUN LITE V3.00 & TUN LITE Offset V3.00 modules.

You can donate more than the recommended donation, of course you get priority for feature requests.

You get the compiled code (not the source), easy to use for drag and drop programming.

You get royalty free distribution in your created VSTi microtonal instrument DLLs.

Now you mention TobyBear, he has something better for this: the MicroTuner, found in his MidiBag
TobyBear wrote:MicroTuner is yet another revolutionary plugin: It adds microtuning capabilities to every VSTi and external synthesizer module, as long as the target synth supports receiving pitchbend on all MIDI channels.

I am not talking about changing a note some cents up or down in pitch, no, you can completely redefine the whole tuning scale, allowing you to set an arbitrary frequency separately for each MIDI note!

And it gets even better, it already has a loader built in (with drag and drop GUI) that can load the widely used Scala, VAZ and Anamark tuning files directly!
