How much disk space does BIAB need?
Is there a minimum install option where I dont use all the packaged samples? I'm not bothered about sounds, I just want to use it as a composition tool to export midi into my sequencer.

BIAB uses standard midi, but you can configure it to use DXi synths and some VSTs. I haven't used this option yet since I just have the demo. You should be fine exporting it into your sequencer. That is what I going to do with it any. The 2006 demo only takes up 41MB so I can't imagine the full version taking up much more. I will have the full version of 2006 on CD tommorow so I can tell you for sure then I don't know about the 2007 version, which comes with Real Drums.

BIAB takes up a lot of disk space because it comes with so much stuff (styles, add-ons etc.). My Megapak installation takes up 2,7 Gigs!
The basic version should be much less of course but I think 41MB is far too little.

Unfortunately, you cannot export midi in the demo. But there is a workaround if you get midiyoke and another sequencer. It's mentioned earlier in the thread. You shouls just get the basic version.Jono-60 wrote:What exactly are styles and why are they so big?
Can I export MIDI with the demo?
edit: the reason why the install is so big is because of the real drum audio files.

What's wrong with people. It expires in two months. How long do you expect to be able to evaluate it?Jono-60 wrote:Cool! But the demo is time limited

Just buy the basic version. It more than worth it. I just downloaded the upgrade for 2006 to 2007 Mega Pak with all the styles. I don't have worry about adding accompanyment ever again.Jono-60 wrote:Forever baby!!!

I've used this one some of my recent compositions and it has bought much needed life to melodies I let die by the wayside previously. Also, it's such a great learning tool to analyze different types of styles.

Coming in late, BIAB is pretty decent software for roughing out ideas. It can sound very muzaky, but that's controllable if you tweak the various parameters.
Meantime: who's tried Cognitone's Harmony Navigator? This seem like a BIAB-host-Chord Space combo kind of development that might solve a lot of issues at once. Or alternatively, be a useless compromise.

I have BIAB 2004 - is it worth upgrading to 2007?
BTW, If you are interested in jazz all 4 real books are availabe for BIAB free of charge. I don't remember where I got them, but if you ask in the biab forum they should know.
