Anyone here know of any royalty-free sample libraries of field recordings of public spaces? Ideally from many places around the globe. I have some recordings of my own of Toronto (not enough, I really should get to recording more), but it'd be excellent to have some from places I've never been, recorded with better equipment and where buying the CD is hopefully cheaper than buying a plane ticket.

I've come across several recordings that are licensed for free under Creative Commons, but finding specific sounds or places is sometimes hit or miss.

Yes, I've looked at freesound quite a bit. One of the many resources I referred to as "several recordings that are licensed for free under Creative Commons." And it's a great site, I am in fact member #454.

But in this case I was hoping to find a commercial product that is royalty-free and not by attribution. I don't mind crediting someone else, but chances that I'll remember in six months where a sample came from and who made it might not always be the surest thing. Thanks though.

Have you looked at powerfx.com? They have a wide selection of sound effects for purchase and download.

This made me think about a hilarious German CD a friend of mine had found in a magazine.

Very nice, MrM, thank you. Pity the Restaurant in Amsterdam mp3 is offline. No requests, I like to be surprised (religious ceremonies are usually very interesting, though).
