I have 100 bucks to buy a direct box. I need it to connect
Passive Gibson Electric Guitar -> Mackie Mixer -> M-Audio Audiophile 2496 -> Amplitube 2.

Any suggestions?

You might want to try Boss' DI-1:

I've been tracked through these, they don't sound half bad :ud:

Don't know if this is in the ballpark, I'll just throw it out there, because I adore mine:

Thanks to everybody for your help. The Boss unit looks like the one.
Have anybody used Whirlwind Hotbox?

You could always build your own. :shrug:

The globally clever thing to do - IF you plan on doing any serious microphone work in the near future - would be to buy an FMR Audio RNP dual-channel pre-amp. It's $500, which is way over your budget, but you get two channels of first-class direct box *plus* two channels of one of the very best mic pre-amps you'll find for the money (or twice the money). I haven't used the RNP DI for guitar, just for bass, but it worked extremely well, and bass is typically harder to get right.

If you're considering preamps as well as DIs, I've been using this, straight into one of my soundcard's inputs: http://www.terratecproducer.com/modules ... cle&sid=29 to good results. Unlike some of the cheap mic preamps I've heard, it works very nicely for both bass and guitar. SOS gave it thumbs up as well, see: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/mar06/a ... artech.htm and scroll to the bottom.
