Hi,
How to get the sound from Jordan Rudess lead, it sounds very guitar-ish. Some example would be:
1. Crossing Over (The Rudess Morgenstein Project)
2. Never Again (same album as above.)
What softsynth would have some similiar preset to those sounds?

I'm not sure what synth he would use, something with a soft wave-form...but its mainly technique and a pitch bender to get those "guitar-esque" bends in.
it just boils down to listening to a guitarist's phrasing and try to manipulate it on a keyboard or synth. goodluck.

i think its a k2600 or k2661. i'm not familiar with those tracks but it most likely is actually using a multi sample of a guitar and then probly some VAST processing. I'm sure kontakt would do something along those lines, but i'm not sure about it as a preset.

Hi,
Jordan Rudess did some presets for the roland v-synth. Right, he uses multisampled guitar-sounds but also some extremly overdriven synthsounds (square, saw) and plays it with a lot of pitch-bending, vibrato and other controls.
I used one of the roland v-synth sounds he made for my song "Never Mind" (handplayed solo at the end)

Also he uses crap like the Continuum, so he has a lot more pitch control than many standard keyboard players.
If you ever get a piece of sheet music for Dream Theater you can see that he has all sorts of instructions for ribbon pitch bends, etc.
Most of the rest of it is just simple saw/square, overdrive, and filter LFOs...

I don't know what he has it plugged into, but the continuum is the controller, so I suspect that that is what makes the whole thing sound awesome.
