How 'bout a "Miro support" web site (or page)?

I was going to title this post "Why isn't Miro more popular?" but that would undoubtedly suggest that a "# of units sold" type of answer is appropriate.

Esoundz/Kim, from what I know, has (most awesomely) given us the only relevant "tips & tricks for Miroslav" that I've seen anywhere, while the GPO product at half the cost and of not-the-same quality, has scores (literally and otherwise) of material on the garritan/northern sounds web site on "how to make the thing ROCK" to not quote directly.

Frankly, I am entirely embarassed suggesting that it is in any way IK's or EZ's (or even Squids and Kim - both who don't seem to even sleep) responsibility to make or create one.

However, as I look at all of the Miro projects that I, um, "haven't" done, once in a while (and sometimes more often) I'll take a look at the GPO web site and think "wow - look at what I could do and look how easy they make it."

Maybe it's just me, but I'd almost (and not just "almost") pay some small monthly subscription-like fee to learn about how to get the most out of Miro, and I don't think it would hurt sales in the slightest.

In fact, many others who are "sitting on the fence" might just buy Miro knowing that they, having maybe a more pop-oriented background and being less classically-trained (though still talented), have access to guides, tutorials, etc, that show how to get the "most music" from it.

To clarify - I love this product, I love IK & EZ, and I obviously I love writing music, and I know that there are others who have asked for, wanted, or even needed help to "support" their musical ambitions using Miro as their chosen "instrument" of expression.

There would be a lot of both grateful users and grateful NEW users if somewhat more could be posted that would help realize "what's in our heads" with Miro.

A big thank you to GregJazz for leaving some guidance and support on composing with Miro and leaving some very inspiring compositions!

Thank you for letting me express this, sorry if I am alone in thinking this would be helpful and assuming that anyone else would, as well!

Have a great day, all,

- Paul

I know what you mean. I too have been a bit frustrated as to why there ain't no PURE Miroslav Philharmonik forum. I've been one of those who have complained about the lack of Miroslav userdemos while not really contributing myself. The contest going on right now inspired me to submit 3 new Miro-songs. Surprisingly, there are just a few Miro-songs in this contest. It may be because of the fact that this is not as populated a forum as NS and many people may not know there is a contest going on at all. The few Miro-demos I've posted on the net, I've allways posted here first, and to my dissapointment there are few listeners (I've got a lister/download-counter) on this forum and ditto comments of ones work when posting them. However, if I post on NS people are listening to the songs and giving comments. Naturally one would choose to post on NS where people are listening?

A new Miroslav Philharmonik forum would be great... And now with the release of the "light" version of this library the demand for a more solid support-forum may be needed...

Hey, Chris,

Do you got a link to all of your downloads?

I'd like to hear what you've done this far. I don't know, honestly, (besides the disease of perfectionism) why I am havin gso much trouble doing anything with Miro - maybe it's the whole orchestration thing, too. And while I've got years of theory, all of my writing has been more rock or new age-based, so it just seems like there is an insurmountable amount to have to know to make decent music.

Not that this is actually TRUE of course...most fear and anxiety is really stuff just blown out of proportion, anyway.

Thank you for the reply,

I definitely agree. I have done a lot more with GPO than with Miroslav simply due to the user info and tutorials. I simply do not have the time that I once had to learn by trial and error. So I hope that some kind of resource comes out exclusively for Miro.

Cheers,
Gordon

we could always make our own fan/blog site? users would be allowed to post their own articles and youtube videos. if the response is good enough i'll talk to kim and see if he's interested in moderating the site. i could be in charge of the backend(no jokes please), and if anyone wants to help in that i'd be willing to accept help in areas like CSS template tweaking.

Paul and others,

First of all, thanks for enjoying the Miroslav Philharmonik tips and tricks thread. I've got a plan to publish those (as well as tips on ST2, AT2, and composition in general) online in one place. I've got most of the material already, but it's scattered around the internet, and on my hard drive in half-written articles. I just need some time. :)

Of course, I'm here to answer any specific questions about any IK or SR products, but it's not quite the same as being able to "browse" a consolidated list.

Latest news is that IK are going to launch a user forum, and I imagine that would have a dedicated place to talk about Philharmonik. Unfortunately I haven't been told when it's going to come online.

Lastly, if people want to hear me use Miroslav Philharmonik, you can check out some of my music on my website at kimlajoie.com.

Not sure if everyone's already seen this, but there's some tips and tricks up on the Philharmonik web site. It's available here:

http://www.philharmonik.com/Main.html?tips

It's different to some of the stuff I've written, so anyone interested in getting another perspective should check it out. :)

Hey,

Where's GregJazz when you need him? ;)

He's got his own site with a forum and was so incredibly nice when I asked him about one of his pieces that he posted here that he actually sent me his Sonar project file!

A dedicated IK forum might do a lot better than a "www.friendsofmiro.com" - though should there be enough interest and if hat domain name is available I might spring for it jsut to help out!! :)

One important thing that Greg had noted was that layering a solo part with it's respective ensemble part does wonders for the overal mix and "believe-ability."

Sometimes trial and error just won't accomplish much in any one lifetime with some plugs and Miro seems to have that quality to it - not for learning the plug itself, but what you can DO with it.

I think THAT is the bottom line - NOBODY is dissatisfied with the plug itself, just their own ability to make the thing do the music that's in their heads.

And by the way, Kim, you sure know how to disappoint - I was SURE that with a name like "Kim" you'd be a hot blonde or ANY kind of femme, fatale or otherwise! (Boy, you sure had ME going!)

:)

Thank you for the response, all!

I agree. I reckon the plug is awesome, but I make it sound shit. :hihi:

right but there's never anything wrong also having a fan site. for starters the site would be built at the pace that the dedicated users build at. i'm curious in how squids will chime into the issue though.

for me philharmonik works wonderfully in sort of hybrid orchestral arrangements where i use contemporary instruments alongside it. i'm not skilled enough to do 100% orchestral scores in it and make it sound believable. i'm lazy with orchestration and i'm lazy in general. but this is what's cool about the miroslav samples - if you're a purist or a contemporary composer both types will get something good out of it cause the samples are just amazing.

i would like to improve my chops with the plugin though and would be willing to help build a community. on the other hand we already have a community here on SR@KVR and maybe a dedicated forum by IK as well as a dedicated site by fans or anything won't help the issue cause there is a userbase here.

Unless you checked out the competiton-thread, here is the page with my three submissions: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pageart ... dID=657125

BTW, it seems like the soundclick-server is down at the moment... I couldn't enter my own soundclick-page.

 Often I forget that my name is unisex. Maybe that's why everyone is always treating me so nice. :hihi:

I think a fan/user site could work just fine. Look at the UAD-1 forum. It's not a site that is moderated/admin. by anyone affiliated with Universal Audio and has been very successful.

IK is doing a forum this year and within it there's a section of each product category. We can have guys like Mr Tunes, Kim, Berfab moderate as well as myself. It will be great and I totally agree.

One thing about Garritan and NS though specifically is that for one thing GPO and the related products is all he does so he concentrates on that and does a great job with that community. Timing is also a factor and he also sort of took over NS it seems which started off with a good Giga following. KVR on the other hand is much more diverse but of course less dedicated to orchestral products or Giga-related either. He's got a niche over there and I commend him for it. It would be nice to have such a community of people of all skills for Philharmonik (yes, also especially because the Miroslav Classik Edition is now at the same price point as GPO). It is VERY popular in terms of the number of units out there (as you assumed correctly there).

Well, when we do it the key will be to spread the word like mad so the powers that be at IK that invest in this effort will think it was worthwhile. That's all up to you guys. You ARE the community. I'll work on pushing to get it made but you guys back me up and we'll have something really cool.

Oh and yeah btw I did do a lot of tips and tricks video clips for Philharmonik. More than anything else. It's in the download section on www.philharmonik.com
